  1. Hi been awhile since i posted here been working on my new site you can check it out if you like links in my profile, anyways I would try going into your bios and Enabling S.M.A.R.T on your Hard drive, when you restart your PC your Motherboard should detect if the hard drive is failing something like backup and replace will come up, if thats the case is most likely that your Windows Installation and Computer Data (Music / Photos / Videos) are all on that drive and are using more then a 75% HD Space, if this is the case I would suggest backing up what you want and what you can, Formatting the Drive and restarting install, Overclocking is always a bad thing to do, I noticed you kept your Graphics card from the old machine, I presume you kept your HD as well. Let me know a bit more of your problem if this doesnt help in anyway, If your hard drive is failing, I would replace soon as possible dont be like me and loose 180 gig of valuble information.....
  2. Thanks man Thanks petef, Exactly what I needed. cheers
  3. Hi i have a customer who gave us her pc to wipe, which we did which was fine, however she came back to us and said she has an IPod that she wants to take the music from and put back on her machine, as she bought music through Itunes, and it never placed it on her pc so when we were backing the music up it didnt back that up as it was on the IPOD, is there anyway of retreiving the music from her ipod?
  4. hmmm i would go for the quad core altough the 420 is seriously fast system.
  5. Tony Tony you are using an SP1 edition of XP, SP2 has included Logical Block addressing support which allows larger Size HD be reconized. if you need help on slipstreaming SP2 or SP3 on the disc please let me know.
  6. looking closely now at your ipconfig /all I will just paste and point a few things Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::2889:8d06:ea80:bfb3%9 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 86.14.209.55 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 86.14.208.1 Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.64.78 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ok the Red writing above is one connection so, what I want to ask is the following. You have two Network Cards. which are both in use the 86.14.209.55 Connection: is your NTL Cable Connection. Is your NTL connection going directly into your pc and then your router connected through your pc on the other port? as far as i can tell from your setup that the way it looks. if that is the case I belive your Router is getting interfeared from NAT "Network address translation" Can you please let me know if that is the case, because if it is you are setup wrong :)
  7. ok this is what you need to do Firstly I notice your using A static IP address for your Router ie the 83. address. Now if your using a router you will be ussing a class C Subnet which sould be something like 192.168.x.x so What I suggest would go to your router and look to see if DHCP is enabled and if so what the ranges are should be like 192.168.1.0-192.168.1.255 if you get the correct Class c addresses from your routher what you should then do is the following set an IP address for your computer at a high end of the list so you will not effect the DHCP on the other devices choose something like ip adress 192.168.1.253 Subnet 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1 prefered DNS server 192.168.1.1 so what you need to do is following go into control panel > network and sharing centre > then click network connections on the left pane under IP Version 4 click properties change to and set the above PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST GET YOUR CORRECT CLASS C IP ADDRESS, AS I said if you are using a router which you said you are you will defintaly using a class C Network addressing. from your ipconfig /all your local area connection is using a public ip addressing which is the 83. etc :) PLEASE NOTE AS WELL TO ALL STAFF You do not need to turn off UAC to renew an IP address, what you will need to do is Right click on CMD and click run as and type administrator details in. this will solve this.
  8. Recovery Partiton Hi Kelly, if I had access to your system your working on I could make the partition what you need to do is create a new ntldr on the C drive which has the recovery Partition in the Ntldr, This will allow you to boot from the partition you should have the f10 option as this is should be built in with Motherboard options, The best thing you can do is Ring, HP and tell them what has happened and they should be able to help you over the phone, They are use to doing it. I have done this once before with Dell and rang dell directly for assistance. they were quite helpful.
  9. My oppinion Hi I have used alot of different type of scanners over the years and I must say I Find AVG the Best suitable Platform for me, I reccomend there Internet Security Package. You get full cover for roughly $60 so not bad for us euro / sterling guys :) I think as well that it keeps your computer running smoothly not like other scanners where they slow down machines, Personally, I havent tryed this AVAST but I have seen it on some of my Competitors Machines that have been brought to be repaired, have ran AVG over AVAST have have noticed AVG Found more defected files then AVAST. AVG as a Free scanner years back was the best but they stopped allowing the Free version to be downloaded and stopped the updates for it. There was a big backlash by the public regarding this and AVG came back as free but you dont get full searching capabilitys and techniques that you should that is why I recommend getting the full version for anyone. It is all really matter of oppinion
  10. Nice Spec Hi how is things, first off I like your computer spec 'itz a nize' ok as the boyz said XP 32 Bit Edition only supports a max of 3.25 gig, vista 32 bit supports 4, What you need do is make sure your new copy of VISTA is the 64 Bit Edition, What way are you trying to install your Service Pack 2? Through Microsoft Updates or through The ExE for IT administrators?? If you are using the normal update feature try that .exe (executable) Link ->>> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en that might help ya :) Please note: When using 64 BIT Editions of Windows XP / vista you will find Alot of Compatabilty Issues with current software. So you might find some of your normal toolz wont work :( (My experience) Hope this helps Shane
  11. How Recently Hi Lee, could you please give us more detail about your problem, How long has this been happening, Have you Anti Virus / Malware Protection? Have You Installed any Hardware or made any changes to software? What is your Systems Spec as well??
  12. You can Disable that In Security Centre You need to Disable UAC User Account Control, This will stop asking you for permission to launch application to do this Open up Control Panel, and type in "UAC" into the search box. You'll see a link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off": http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/uac1.png On the next screen you should uncheck the box for "Use User Account Control (UAC)", and then click on the OK button. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/uac2.png You'll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.
  13. Few things to try Begin with the first procedure and continue through the list. Try using the CD or DVD after each procedure is completed. For any procedure that requires changing current system settings, record the original settings before completing the procedure. Verify that the correct disc (CD/DVD) is used when prompted to insert the disc. For programs on DVD, verify that the drive containing the DVD is a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM drive. Most DVD drives will have DVD printed on the front of the drive. For programs on DVD, consider the following: DVD drives can read both DVD's and CD's. CD-ROM drives can read only CD's. If multiple disc drives (e.g., CD-ROM and CD-RW, or DVD and DVD-RW, or CD-ROM and DVD-RW, etc.) exist on the computer that can read the disc (refer to the items under Step 2), insert the CD or DVD into the other drive and try the program again. If you are attempting to install a program and the installation does not begin after inserting the CD/DVD into the proper drive, refer to the program's instructions for the installation procedure, or try starting the installation in the following manner: Close all programs and windows and return to the desktop. Click Start, select Settings (Windows® 2000/XP Classic Start Menu) and click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon (Windows® 2000/Windows® XP in Classic View). The Add/Remove Programs window will open. NOTE: For Windows® XP, if the Add/Remove Programs icon does not appear in the Control Panel, click Classic View (on the left) and then double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. The Add/Remove Programs window will open. Verify that the CD/DVD is in the correct drive and click the Add New Programs button (left). Click the CD or Floppy button. The Install from Floppy Disk or CD-ROM window will open. Click Next. Windows® will begin scanning the drives for any Setup or Install files. After the drives are scanned, the install command will appear in the Open: line. NOTE: If the Open: line is empty, stop here and continue with Step 5. Click Finish. The installation should begin. Follow the program instructions to complete the installation. Clean the CD/DVD in the following manner: Place a small amount of nonabrasive liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD/DVD. Using your fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD/DVD in a circular motion. Rinse the CD/DVD thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. (Do not use paper towels or tissue paper.) Verify that the most current version of the driver for the DVD or CD drive is being used. This is accomplished in the following manner: Close any open programs or windows and return to the desktop. Right-click the My Computer icon and choose Properties from the menu that appears. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab. Click Device Manager button. Click View and choose View Devices By Type. In the list that appears, locate DVD/CD-ROM Drives or Controller. Click the plus sign (+) next to this listing. The CD and/or DVD drive manufacturer and drive model number will appear below the DVD/CD-ROM Drives listing. Double-click the name that appears. In the Properties window, select the Driver tab. Record the information that appears. Contact the computer or CD/DVD drive manufacturer and request information regarding the newest driver for the drive. In most cases, information can be obtained at the web site of the computer or CD/DVD drive manufacturer. NOTE: Do not click the Update Driver button. The Update Driver wizard searches the system (not the Internet) for drivers to the selected device. Download and install the new driver. Try the CD or DVD again. Try to use a different CD or DVD in the drive to see if that disc can be read. If possible, insert the problem CD or DVD into the DVD or CD drive of another computer to see if the issue persists.
  14. Also click on start go to run type msconfig and click on the startup tab if you can see the file there or anything similar to it untick that box restart machine it should temp fix your problem until you can run a proper Malware / Spyware Scanner I recommend AVG Internet Security as an overall Internet Security Solution
