  2. Hi, my BIOS information is as follows: BIOS Information Vendor: Phoenix Version: 1.05AD Release Date: 09/16/2009 --- I think that I have a virus in my BIOS... and I need to flash my BIOS in order to get the original version of the BIOS back. The problem is.. I have searched all over the Internet, and cannot seem to find this precise BIOS anywhere, to download, so that I can flash the BIOS and get the original version back. If it helps.... my computer is an Advent Roma, manufacturer Advent, and model, Roma. So, if anyone knows where I can find the BIOS software, or if anyone has this computer or another Advent, it would be good if you could let me know. If you have Linux, you can run the following command to find your BIOS version: sudo dmidecode | less If you have Windows, follow this tutorial, in order to find your BIOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/biosverwin.htm Thanks a lot.
  3. I can definitely connect to my phone via bluetooth. I can transfer files and all. And as I said, it comes up on my phone with a kind of PC-to-PC logo indicating a network connection. The other guy said I can get a ping, so surely my ISP/phone operator allows internet, but I guess it would be best to phone them up.
  4. I should have already told you, but the internet works fine on my phone, so surely it can't be anything to do with subscriptions running out. Any other suggestions?
  5. This is a screenshot of what happened. http://lh6.ggpht.com/liquidmetalband/SFw6FfoMqzI/AAAAAAAAGXA/fxTiCuohqqE/o2%20ping.JPG C:\Users\Neil>ping yahoo.com Pinging yahoo.com [68.180.206.184] with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out.
  6. My LG KU990 can work as a USB modem, by connecting to it through bluetooth and then establishing a connection via dial up. I've gone into my networks in Windows Vista and set up a new one through my phone. http://lh3.ggpht.com/liquidmetalband/SFwsqEE-E0I/AAAAAAAAGWg/odfHcCDahEM/dialling%20to%20ku990.JPG According to the internet, I type the username I should use and the password with the dial code. It connects fine and apparently registers my computer on the network. An appropriate logo is also shown on my phone, indicating a connection. However, I can never manage to load up webpages. When loading up google.com, it says it finds the website's IP, but it never actually manages to load up. Internet Explorer presents me with an error screen. Now, I should also point that I am apparently able to connect using any username/password combination. I don't think that has anything to do with anything. So, any tips?
  7. It's completely related to Dell's default settings. The driver and the hardware is perfectly fine. It's just annoying that Dell would set this by default, considering that Windows Vista shutdown is set to hibernate as default. This would pretty much affect every inexperienced customer they have buying this machine. Very poor testing by Dell. All you have to do is go in and edit the power saving levels for the wireless adapter. Always set it to Maximum Power.
  8. People, I think I have found the solution. It has nothing to do with drivers or anything of the like. The solution is to edit all of the power plans such that the Wireless Adapter is always on Maximum Performance. By default, the wifi was only on Maximum Performance when I'm using the High Performance power option. So I changed it so wifi is on max when on Power Saving as well as Dell Recommended. Check out my screenshot for more info, if you have this same problem: 2shared - download Power options wifi.JPG
  9. As I said in my original post, I already have the latest driver. And I already have an option to choose the Dell settings. Thanks anyway.
  10. Come on people. I'm almost sure this is an issue over power management of some degree. The hibernation always seems to flawlessly work so long as I keep the computer plugged into the wall. It seems like the kind of problem that someone could easily solve.
  11. OK, sorry for posting in the wrong section. Hopefully someone can get this issue solved. It would be nice to be able to use hibernation without the wifi cutting off.
  12. I have Windows Vista Home Premium with a Dell XPS M1530 and the Intel PRO 3945ABG Wireless as my wifi. The current driver version for this wireless device is 11.5.0.32, which is the latest to my knowledge. It works pretty much fine all of the time. When I fully shut down the computer and turn it on again, fine. All fine. But when I switch off the computer using the default Hibernation mode, upon startup the wifi just cuts off altogether after about 5 minutes or so. I should point out that this only appears to happen when my laptop is running on its own battery, i.e. not plugged in. Whenever I have it plugged in, it actually seems to be OK after a hibernation. By the way, I HAVE unchecked "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" option under Power Management in the Device Manager. So what do you think is the problem here? Thanks.
