  1. Hi Nev, How bl**dy frustrating. I uninstalled CD Burner XP and restarted the system, one of the drives was ok the other still locked. Reinstalling means I'm back where I was at the beginning, both drives locked on startup but both can be freed up if I start then close CD Burner XP. I suppose I'll just have to accept that as a work round. Regards, Bob.
  2. Hi Nev, Thanks for that, I have run scans, everything seems ok. Task manager shows all sorts of stuff running, the most of which is just gobbledygook to me, however I checked out MNSAccessU.exe which is something to do with "CD Burner XP" I opened CD Burner XP and the drive then worked properly. Still working after closing it down but will wait till rebooting to try again. If it does it again I may just uninstall the program. Many thanks.
  3. Hi Ray, Yes both drives are listed in Device manager.
  4. I have 2 CD/DVD drives fitted to my PC and am unable to open the trays whilst running windows. If I press the eject buttons during the boot up sequence they work ok but as soon as wiindows loads they refuse to work. It would appear that there is some software running which is locking the drives but I can't find what's doing it. How can I determine what the problem is and resolve it. Many thanks for any help as always. Bob.
  5. Hi Ken, Thanks for that, looks like not too much to worry about for the time being. Regards, Bob.
  6. I guess I won't be the only one to ask this but as Microsoft are ending support for XP after April next year a lot of people are going to be left High and dry. Yes we could "upgrade" to Win 7 but for me that means about 12 new licences and certainly some of my current software will not run in Win 7. This will mean a huge expense which frankly I can't afford. The question is will it possible to download all the existing updates to use in the event of needing a re-install or will it mean we are all stuck with just XP SP3? Any ideas? Bob.
  7. A very interesting article which seems to confirm my rather cynical view of things. A new system which has been implemented by numerous manufacturers before it's been thoroughly tested and debugged!
  8. Hi Ken, Yep, that's the card. Latest driver and PROSet software installed this morning. I think I might just leave things as they are, I don't think I'm going to suffer from not having the extra speed, I'm getting 21Mb download using the wireless connection and anything I need to transfer over the network is not likely to be a problem at the speeds I'm getting. It's just we all want to see what "it says on the tin" I guess. Thanks for your efforts.
  9. Yes Device manager has settings to limit connection to a,b, or g or to allow auto selection which is default. Nowhere is there a choice to set N only
  10. Had a look at advanced settings in the hub3 and there is an option to set to Wireless N only, default is b,g,n. However the same screen suggests the current speed is actually 130Mbps, odd as the adapter reports this as 54Mbps. Maybe I am getting more than it seems?
  11. Interesting, I tried the Hub 2 and connection speed is immediately 130Mbps, as I suspected Hub 3 is a poor "upgrade"
  12. Many thanks, I had heard some people had had problems with the Hub3, I may just revert to the Hub2 which I still have to see if that works any better. What a shame BT can't provide a genuine "upgrade"!
  13. I've just had BT infinity installed with the Homehub 3 and have upgraded my laptop wireless adapter with an Intel 4965AGN card to take advantage of the increased speed of the "N" connection. The installation worked seemingly correctly and I'm connected to the hub but only at 54.0 Mbps which is exactly the same as my old wireless "G" card. I understood I should be able to get up to 300 Mbps with the new card. Any ideas why not? Win XP Pro with SP3, Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop with T9300 CPU
  14. Hi Ken, Yes thank you that is very helpful, cheers.
  15. Sorry maybe I didn't make it very clear. I'm left clicking the start of the text then holding left mouse button down and dragging down to select the text.
