  1. do you mean the Security Setting in IE ? I don't have ZoneAlarm, just a router firewall... thanks Philip
  2. Request times out pinging that IP. And here is the result of the NSLookup: Server: dns1.online.lu Address: 195.218.0.9 Non-authoritative answer: Name: Google Addresses: 66.249.93.104, Aliases: Google
  3. RE: Firewall Hi, in the SA WebStar router setup, there is a FireWall Options area, with Port Forwarding, Port Triggers and so on... But these were specifically for opening and forwarding Ports, there is nothing that I can find that shows Port 80 (or 81) as blocked ... I will check again, add Port 80 as a forwarded port, and reboot the router this evening to see if it has any effect (I doubt it)... thanks Philip
  4. I will try these this evening when I get home. Last night I removed all the Windows Updates going back to the beginning of June, plus I re-installed IE7 with Malicious Software Removal Tool. Thanks for your help Philip
  5. IPConfig ... I don't know if this will help, but I decided to give you my IPConfig data...just in case there's something in there that rings a bell... 6. RE: Net fix ... Hi, Is there any chance this issue could be related to the fix recently released by Microsoft or the problem that it is supposed to fix? BBC NEWS | Technology | Net address fix foxes web users and on the MS KB Site: MS08-037: Description of the security update for DNS in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows 2000 Server (client side): July 8, 2008 thanks Philip
  7. RE: HTTP Port 80? Hi, is there a way with the Command screen to check if the HTTP Port 80 is open and not blocked? thanks Philip
  8. RE: LSP-Fix - AND - McAfee Disabled Hi, I downloaded and ran LSP-Fix and when I opened it I saw the green message 'No Problems Found'.... I could see three LSP's but did not know which one's I should remove so I left it alone... I rebooted again last night after disabling McAfee and Windows Firewall... Still no change ( Safari is fine, but IE and FF get a DNS error?) thanks for any help Philip
  9. RE: Wolfeymole With my own paid ISP (broadband cable) ... same one I've had for 2 years... ANd as I've said, I have no trouble getting on the net with Safari (or MSN Messenger etc) and have no trouble running Sling Player... just IE and FF That's why it's so weird and frustrating! Thanks for your help Philip
  10. RE: RandyL (Questions) It's a policy of my employer to make Anti-Virus software freely available to all it's employees (worldwide) for use on the home computer. They take the view that it will reduce virus problems... I think in their Enterprise version (8.0i) there is no firewall as they have corporate firewalls, proxies etc It is my personal laptop, owned by myself, and I have never taken it to work (BTW, it's worked fine for 2 years, just a problem in the last month). I am only running Safari because (as luck would have it) it works even though IE and FireFox don't work (which is mightily strange). If I had IE or FF working, I would not be using Safari (although it grows on you) Windows FireWall is off. I can't find a McAfee FireWall - but there is 'Port Blocking' which relates to things like mass-mailing emails and worms... Is there any chance that there is yet another firewall installed by something in the last few weeks (like God Help Me, Norton ?) I will reboot this evening and let you know how it goes. Thanks Philip
  11. RE: FireWall Ok, I have no software firewall (at least I can't find one) and still have no luck with HTTP Port 80 ... Is there any way I can find out what is blocking it before I go the whole hog and reinstall Windows? I prefer to avoid this if possible, as I am replacing the laptop in October anyway, and will have to completely nuke the system plus reinstall before selling it, however, I do need IE/Firefox for some websites such as my bank! Is there a simple way of creating another partition with Linux that I can use FireFox on (or even another instance of Windows running in Safe Mode with Networking)? thanks everyone Philip
  12. RE: RandyL (McAfee) Hi Randy, Yes but in the Enterprise version that I have there is nothing like that - just the Port Access control. I checked with the Desktop Team at work (who supply us with the McAfee) and they say my version has no firewall... Anyway, for now I've reset the Winsocks (a guy at work suggested it) and will reboot to see if that helps... I've also tried in the msConfig to remove absolutely everything... Will let you know. Thanks for all your help so far. Philip
  13. Time to uninstall McAfee I think... it's beyond a joke! There's nothing in the Enterprise version I have for FireWall except something about Port Access blocking (things like mass mailing worms, FTP inbound etc) Philip
  14. RE: FireWall Yes, I will disable Windows firewall and try to disable McAfee firewall too (if it exists). It's the Enterprise version of McAfee (version 8.1 I think). Such a weird situation, In Windows Safe Mode everything is fine, but in normal mode I get nothing! thanks Philip
