Hi, I've tried to do the repair thing beofre and it comes up saying..windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannotbe completed: connecting to the wireless network I will try your futher suggestion and let you know about exclamations or crosses. Thanks

tootech.. I know how you feel ha ha I hae 3 uni essays and 5 lab reports eek! I hae tried that button and all it does it brings up the powersaving details, also the button on the front is switched to on, but it's something else I have done within the network connections bit.. still haven't had time to try the last sugestion but Iwill do once this work is out of the way Good Luck!!

WOW! that's a lot to try and understand lol I'm sure that my netbook came with it's own wireless installed and I've somehow managed to not allow it to now pick up avaliable wireless networks which sounds like what you have typed... I will give it a go soon (uni work calls) and let you know how I get on. Many Thanks for your response to this

hi, that is probably a good question to ask me really ha ha but no I haven't turned it off I know for a fact I went into wireless network settings and unticked/ticked a couple of different boxes in there. It states now when I try to set up a manual network connection (instead of using a flash drive, which I didn't use when I initially got wireless) the message pops up saying Depending on the wireless software running in this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work, for details, see article 871122 in the microsoft knowledge base on microsoft.com. When I click ok, it won't let me go any further other than to use a usb which I don't have. I can't remember what I have done exactly and need this to make my uni life easier as it's a lot easier carrying a netbook than a desktop lol

Hi I have tried a couple fo different restore dates over the last week or so however each time I try it, it states computer (netbook) is unable to restore and the only other one then avaliable is after the date I 'broke' it

Hi, Wonder if anyone can help me (yet again) I was fiddling around on my netbook a few days back and somehow (don't ask how) but it appears I have knocked the wireless settings off, my netbook now does not pick up any avaliable networks whether it be secured or unsecured, it doesn't even find my own wireless point which is only across the room to me. Stupidly I then tried to tick/untick boxes here and there to see if I could rectify my problem... but no, what ever I've done it appears I've done it good lol Does anyone know which boxes need to be ticked/untick to allow me to pick up my wireless again please :)

Thanks for the help, her partner took it into work and did something to it, he managed to save her pics etc to disk and now has a working laptop again. Thanks again..

thanks for that, but when I get to the menu screen and select safe mode, all it does is run through what appears to be a list of files and then goes to the password screen again, there is no way for us to get back to thedesktop to open the control panel. There are more than 1 option regarding safe mode when I have pressed f8 which one do you recommend selecting (have already done the safe mode one) The other options on the advanced boot options are: Safe mode with networking safe mode with command prompt enable boot logging enable low-resolution video (640x480) Last known configureation (TRIED ALREADY NO CHANGE) directory services restore mode debugging mode disable automatic restart on system failure disable driver signature enforcement Start windows normally (TRIED ALREADY NO CHANGE) Thanks for your response, I may not be able to reply this evening as I have no net at home, so it may be tomorrow now. Also as a note, when she puts in an obviously incorrect password, and selects reset password the following pop up message appears. This feature requires removable media, such as a floppy disk or usb flash drive. Please insert a floppy disk or connect a usb fash drive, and then try again. We don't understand why this comes up and are at a complete loss..... Any other help avaliable please??

hi, I have already tried restarting the laptop and done the f8 start in safe mode and last known good configuration but each time it still requires a password which she wouldn't even know how to put on even if she wanted to, so I know for a fact t's not something she has done herself. We live in South Tyneside x

Hi I wonder if anyone is able to help with this problem, my mam has had her laptop for approx 2 years this xmas and has had no problems with it... until the last couple off days. Not sure what has happened but somehow she has put a password onto the main windows screen and doesn't know how she has or what she has set it to. Is there anyway we would be able to find out what this is or at least take it off. We are able to verify ownership if required, as long as someone wouldbe able to help. Many Thanks x

Hi, I wonder if someone could help I bought an Acer netbook on 18th September 2009 and basically had problems with it from the start... initially it would just freeze now and then when I was online where I would get one of two screens either a blue one regarding hardware or a black on regarding boot disk, at first I could just undo the battery and restart before being able to use it again. However, last night it went to the black screen and switched itself off, I never thought anything about it as it was late and I just went off to bed. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key As it is a netbook I don't have a disk drive to insert a disk (not that I have a disk either) I would take it back to the store, but I don't have or at least can't find my receipt I'm not sure if I'm still covered by the shop or whether they are going to suggest I use their technical helpline (at a cost) I did orig take out the extra support but as advised by the guy at the time, just to cancel it after the 1st payment.... why oh why did I ever listen to this bloke considering he convinced me to both buy this and the extra help as well as convinve me to cancel it!! Please please please can someone advise me as to what would be best to do, I don't want to fiddle around with it incase the store refuses to help me even if they could.. Is that before my password screen comes up and would that affect anything? What exactly will this remove? am I likely to lose my security etc Just a little worried and need to know this is the right thing to be doing I believe I had 2 viruses on pc although as far as aware these are now gone.. Also can I just confirm if this is the best option I do not need any form of disc to do this?

Hi does anyone know if you can restore windows vista back to factory settings.. I have done system restore but vista doesn't seem to hold many dates in its memory for long. I do not have a disc as vista was already installed on the pc when bought it from mail order please get back to me if you can help cheers
