I have tried to use Windows Update and it comes up with the error meaasge: 80070490. Does anyone know how I fix this?

Sometimes my Laptop freezes when I try to open a program once its started up. When this happens I have to turn it off with the power switch as it wont even let me shut down properly. It happens several times in a row (sometimes it has happened so many times I have given up trying to use it) before it eventually works. It will freeze or take a long time to open even the basic programs like word or the start menu during this time. If I leave it long enough when it has frozen the screen will then go blank and the message box "Logon proccess has failed to create the security options dialog" - " Failure - Security Options". Any ideas what the problem might be?:confused:

When I start up my laptop a box appears saying Solution Centre is checking for updates. It then says that the required file is on a CD and that it needs to be inserted. I have no idea what update this is for or what CD it is on about. Any ideas?
