  1. Hi Maynardvdm I'm not encountering any other problems with my system other than the office updates. I've tried installing office enterprise but it will not accept my license key (the key I have with the original office pro 2007 software i have). Other security software i have installed is mcafee security centre. i dont think this has effected anything because updates can still be installed ok.
  2. Hi Goku I have tried the above but still the problem persists. I did try manually downloading each individual update and saving them to my desktop. Once I downloaded the 5 that wouldn't install I then attempted to install them myself. Each one worked fine at the beginning but then a dialog box popped up saying the update had failed. No reason or any error codes were present so I couldn't say what the cause was. It seems like no matter how hard you completely remove Office Pro 2007 and SQL server the updates still won't install. Cheers, Russ
  3. Hi AdvancedSetup, Apologises for the delay replying to your post. Thanks for the instructions. I have CCleaner installed anyway on my laptop so I am use to the functions of this little piece of freeware. I followed the above line by line making sure I removed everything to do with MS Office 2007. Including going into the COMMON files folder. I also made sure that anything to do with SQL was deleted as well. I uninstalled Windows SP3 and started fresh with SP2. I installed office ok. No problems everything installed fine once I had entered my registration key. Then using the second CD for Business Contact Manager, this failed to install and a message popped up to say the install had failed and to check a TEMP folder. Aside from that I opened up Outlook 2007 (now installed fresh) and straight away a dialog box appeared with a message saying "Microsoft Office Hybrid Professional 2007" needed to configure itself. This ran automatically and soon disappeared. The programs work fine but again the Windows updates for Office 2007 will not install. Despite downloading each one and installing them individually each one hit back with nothing more than "UPDATE FAILED TO INSTALL". There were no reason codes or explanations to why the updates had failed. I have installed Windows Installer 3.0 numerous times, in case it had been corrupted. I have renamed the "softwaredistribution" folder under %systemroot% to "systemdistribution.old" then tried to download and install the relevant updates. Again this had no effect. Downloading is fine without any problems, come to the install part then that's when all the failure messages begin. I could carry on fine using OFFICE 2007 but it’s the updates that keep bugging me. Cheers, Russ
  4. I have just tried to install the office updates and unfortunately the reinstalling office and applications hasn't cured the updates from failing upon installation. I agree, I think there could be a lot of mess left behind. I thought uninstalling SP3 would help but it hasn't. I'm going to stick with SP2 now until I've got everything working in a stable condition. § Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808) § Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB952142) § Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB953463) § Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 (KB950114) § Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB950113) § Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB946974) § Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB947801) § Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691) I don't have any other Microsoft applications running. The ones I know of are Office Pro 2007, the Microsoft SQL (which is broken) cannot install Business Contact Manager because of it. Keeps on referring to a folder located with my C:\ drive. I have no add-ons for Microsoft Office.
  5. A quick update to let you all know where I am at. ü Uninstalled Microsoft Office Professional 2007 ü I have uninstalled Windows Service Pack 3 (SP3); I’m now back with SP2. ü Reinstalled Microsoft Office Professional 2007 ü Downloaded & installed Update for Windows XP (KB927891) ü Installed Windows Update Agent 3.0 My firewall is controlled by McAfee Security Centre & I have made sure that Office & any MS products have inbound/outbound access. I’m now going to look at the link now that Goku post “unable to install Windows Updates”. I will update again if I find anything. Cheers, R:cool:
  6. Hi Dalo Tried the above in the command prompt. Copied and paste them exactly and hit enter. I was surprised that no message popped back to confirm the commands had been installed. Very strange.
  7. I have removed office 2007 and reinstalled it after clearing the installer folder and getting rid of the HKEY’s for Office completely. Office installed fine but updates popped back up again saying they had failed to install. I tried to install the update for office 2007 (see posts above) using a direct link to the download. This time instead of the update saying the system couldn’t find the program it just says update failed. I'm off to bed.
  8. Hey thanks mate! I will try this now. I have gone to >start >run and typed installer. a folder has appeared with lots of installer files, for example one is called 248b6b and theres a lot more. Plus several folders which begin with {numbers and letters}. Which do I delete? Do I only go to this folder after I have run Add/Remove programs and uninstalled Office 2007. Sorry if I'm losing the plot. Been a long day! Cheers mate!! Russ
  9. Hi RandyL I downloaded the update and installed as requested. Upon installation a dialog box appeared containing the following message Update for Office 2007 (KB934391) ---------------------------------------- The expected version of the product was not found on the system Office 2007 is installed and functioning fine without any problems. Cannot see why this error would crop up.
  10. I have completely uninstalled Office 2007, restarted, made sure there are no left over’s and checked for any files/folders relating to >C >Program Files >Microsoft Office. I have then reinstalled Office using the complete install feature on the original software CD. Reattempted to download the following updates available... Update for Office 2007 (KB934391) Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB936514) Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB947801) Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB946974) Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691) Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 (KB950114) Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB950113) Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808) Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB952142) Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB953463) Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109) All of the above downloaded from the MS updates website but failed to install.

  12. I think I may have left the office updates and not un-installed them. I have noticed that you cannot un-install Windows Installer 3.0 from the Add/Remove programs. It doesn’t have the option to remove it or make any changes. I purchased my laptop brand new from Dell along the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 with Business Contact Manger software. There are two CD’s, one for Office and the other is separate for installing Business Contact Manager (which I cannot install). The MSQL service doesn’t work on my laptop. I have my own unique license key to use Microsoft Office Professional 2007 with Business Contact Manger software so it cannot be a trial version. Thanks, Russ:p
  13. I have found the Event Viewer through >My Computer >Manage and have noticed two relating to MS Office. One called MS Office Diagnostics the other MS Office Sessions. I was going to save the reports in .txt file format but this would have been an extremely long post. I was looking at the Application report under >My Computer > Manage >Event Viewer >Application and noticed the following failure. 08/2008 19:08:00 MsiInstaller Information None 11708 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM RUSSELL Product: Microsoft Office Professional Hybrid 2007 -- Installation failed. I have noticed this before, Microsoft Office Professional Hybrid 2007. I’ve had a Google and can’t really make sense of the Hybrid version of Office Pro 2007. I did start out at the very beginning of this post talking about how I had to remove Office Pro 2007 due to an error in PowerPoint. Since reinstalling the Office suite from the original software CD I have noticed that Office Pro Hybrid 2007 has appeared. Thanks for your speedy responses Danzil. Have a look at this another day mate. I’ll see if I can find anything more. Ta Russ;)
