Built-in Administrator Account

Is that just a case of adding a user and then using that one as my default account? -
Built-in Administrator Account
decemberboy replied to decemberboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I did try that but it still wouldn't open. I'm not even sure why my account has become a Built-in Administrator one? Beforehand I signed in with the same password etc and had access to everything. -
Hi everyone, I recently had to clear some malware off my Windows 10 laptop after it got infected. Malwarebytes found and deleted it all and subsequent scans have come back clean. However since then when I try to open certain apps/programs (Edge and Photos so far) I get a message saying "*program* can't be opened using the Built-in administrator Account. Sign in with a different account and try again" I have only ever had one account on this laptop so I'm not sure how to change this back so I can access all programs. So far all the things I use regularly are working fine so it's more an annoyance than anything. I've read some fixes online but they involve opening Local Security Policy which isn't available on my edition of Windows 10. Does anyone know what the issue is and how I can sort it? Many thanks.

The Seatools long generic scan passed. Is there any other tests or scans I need to run? -

Thanks a lot for the reply. I ran Check Disk, it took a couple of hours but got to 100% and reloaded Windows no problem so I assume it's done its job. I've installed Seatools and it's currently performing a long generic scan in my C drive. Was this the correct option to select? thanks again. -
Hi, I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TE laptop running Windows 8.1 which in the last month or so has become increasingly unstable. Not connecting to the internet, slow connection when I do, laptop freezing for several minutes at a time and sometimes crashing altogether. I've run virus checks, malware scans etc both in normal and safe mode and every time nothing is found. I've refreshed Windows back to factory settings in the hope that would help but it hasn't made any difference. I've also had problems when trying to boot with the laptop saying that it couldn't boot as there is no drive (not word for word but something like that) although after trying a couple of times Windows did load normally. I've had the blue screen a couple of time although the laptop has restarted before I could make of a note of the error code. Today however I got the blue screen and managed to get the error which was: KERNEL_ DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (volmgrx.sys) A quick Google search throws up several results but I'm not too sure what to do to fix it so if anyone could help me here and/or take me through what needs to be done I'd greatly appreciate it. I've used this forum before and it's always been very helpful so thanks in advance!

[ Solved ] MS Paint Problems
decemberboy replied to decemberboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, thanks for that, sorry for the delay in replying. I now have paint working fine if I open it via a shortcut on my desktop but when I try to open it via START-ALL PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-PAINT it opens up the SYSTEM32 folder. How do I sort that out? -
Hi all, When I click on the MS Paint icon from the start menu, instead of opening Paint as I want, it opens a folder called System32, it's as if Paint has disappeared and been replaced with this. I done a search of my hard drive for any files/folders for 'Paint and tried to open it from different locations and they all do the same, apart from one which brings up the toolbox part of paint and nothing else before crashing. I've read that I can do a clean install of Paint using my XP CD but I'm a bit worried that doing that will delete the System32 folder which contains drivers and other things that I may need to run the PC. I think I know how it happened; I left my nieces playing on paint when they were here and I can only assume they must have done something by accident. It's more of an annoyance than a problem as I only really use Paint to save a screen grab now and again and the rest of XP is running fine. I use XP with Service Pack 3 installed. Many thanks for your help.

[ Solved ] Connecting Windows ME to a router.
decemberboy replied to decemberboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Okay thanks very much. I was using one of these to get round the problem of there being no Ethernet port LUPO USB to LAN Ethernet Network RJ45 Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo Which I thought did the same job as a network card or do I need a network card too? I really am a novice when it comes to stuff like this! Thanks again. -
Hi I was wondering if it's possible to connect an old Windows Millennium PC to a Belkin N1 wireless router? I use Virgin Media as my Internet provider. I have the wireless router running no problem with my Vista laptop but want to connect my old PC to it as a second computer to use. The PC would be wired to the router. Now the PC is an old Windows ME machine with no Ethernet socket so I tried to connect it using a USB to ethernet converter but no joy. The software that came with the router states that it will not work on anything earlier than XP but is that not just the pC you install the router on? I'm really sorry if I haven't explained this very well but this is the first time I have tried to set up a network of sorts so don't really know what I'm doing! Thanks!
