Bump :) It's crashing quite a bit in the last few days now. You can see in the pic above the adapter I put in for the 12v 4 to 8 pin plug. But that doesnt seem to be doing very much magic :\ -

no actually  I have an acrtic cooling fan for the nvidia 6800 will that fit my 8400? EDIT: which is the NV5 silencer (Arctic Cooling) (..found not to be compatible so will look up thier newer range) I played the game, restarted, BIOS'd it up, upon restarting again it crashed, so waited n restarted again lol but got the following: GPU temp during game: 54oC (after crashing n sitting there for 30 mins) gpu temp: 48oC BIOS crap after first restart after gaming.. cpu temp: 56oC system temp?: 60 oC Voltages I only found these: Vcore: 139 Vddr: 182 +3.3: 3.36 +12 12.28 +5.0: 5.16 hope that helps? Sorry man, this is so annoying! EDIT #2: Ok if its a cooling thing ill get on it.. I'm wondering now if we ended up downgrading our GFX card, we went from nvidia geforce 6800 (gs i think) to the nvidia geforce 8400gs (as we were previously told the old gfx card was at fault) ... so did we end up shooting ourselves in the foot in the end? if the last one IS fine and runs better than our current it has a better cooling fan on it.. then i might whack it back in n see whats going on :) -

Hey all.. crashing problem!
ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
lol :) Ok, the motherboard (intel chip) has an 8pin hole there for the power but the power supply only came with a 4 pin cable, so i bought an adapter from the 4pin cable to the 8pin hole. -

ahh it crashed last night!!! NOOOOOO!!! Of course, started up once I'd left her alone for 30 minutes... the hardware was barely warm nevermind hot (as with the cold weather last night:( ) -

ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hey :) I put in the cable, it didnt like it the first time round, it started but nothing came up on screen so i gave it a bit, and had a poke around, and now she's running :D Although I ran CPUID and teh results came out the same as on page 3, is that expected? I updated the bios too (only came out couple weeks ago) and I'm about to check out if there's any more overclocking options in the BIOS as there wasn't before (when u asked me to automate them) cheers  -

Hey all :) I have the 4pin female to 8pin male ATX cable, are there any tests i can perform to see if it makes alot of difference to power distribution..? if that is the problem  Thanks, Natalie :) -

*small sigh of relief* That'll be it then :D Can't get one today but will do soon our power supply is new, it just didn't come with 8 pin. And nah man I only PC health status where you're pointing to.. can't remember them all ofc, but there was no word of overclocking on there  -
Hey all.. crashing problem!
ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I actually couldn't find any overclocking options in the bios.. it seems pretty limited.. I found a review of it though, and perhaps it's this: "very good mobo for the price, has average overclocking specs, with bios update accepts the higher 775 cpu's, thing to note it has a 8 pin connection onboard for power which most psu's dont have, i had to buy a convertor for the power to even out." It said in the manual using a 4pin plug from the power supply is fine.. but maybe not? Would I need to buy something like this? : 4-Pin Power Supply to 8-Pin ATX Server Board Converter - Power Cables & Accessories at PCLoft.com -

So I need to reduce the MHz output then? would that slow the pc down some? -
Hey all.. crashing problem!
ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm not overclocking it at all.. at least on purpose lol, it did run ok with the current set up before these probs started to arise, so i felt no need to bother messing with it -

Sorry, what do u mean list the cpu.. I downloaded CPUID and got the bottom info if that helps?.. The mobo I have is a Foxconn 945P(G)7MD Foxconn - Products: Motherboard Everything's just warm, not hot to the touch, nothing more than expected.. The case has 1 fan on back ofc, and one (below) gfx card, and one on the mobo, the heat sink ain't moving too much, and the mobo was from pc world, and was put together before we bought it. NOw the event log is showing errors from the cd-rom "while paging" and an NV problem.. this is when i started watching a dvd by the way lol, which actually played, but yeah errors there -
Hey all.. crashing problem!
ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ahh.. give me strength.. it crashed again.. and there's nothing in the event log whatsoever, not even anything that started never mind errors.. After everything I've done.. It most likely is a heat thing.. With all fans on the temp's fine although it's the 'core' and 'temp 2' which seem to be temperamental and like to go in the 50 region, and wont drop below 39 (degrees).. even this apparently isn't too bad.. but ah man, something's causing it.. All I was doing, ALL I was doing just now as it crashed was viewing a smallville website lol.. I've noticed that the CPU usage spikes over the smallest of things.. closing a window or minimizing it, raises it by 10% even for the moment and then that raises the temp by 3/4 deg's .. is this it?? -

Yeah I usually use this soft brush from a hair clipper kit, (of course, not used for hair :D) And yeah to be honest I'd do a reinstall in that order.. logical if nothing else! :D She hasn't crashed so far.. I played SCS for maybe 10 mins, still, lasted longer than ususal and wasnt tooooo jumpy, but still a little. I also read my mobo isn't a real gamer one, so I'll probably do what I can for now and replace it down the line ready in time for spore ;) HOW MUCH DOES EVERYBODY WANT THAT GAME!!! .. not as much as me tho :D Thanks so much for the help guys, will remain extreeemely vigilant for dust n whatnot in the future! :) -
Hey all.. crashing problem!
ginggoth replied to ginggoth's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok what I've done for the moment.. I found alot of errors in the event log concerning CD ROM and GFX card, so I started with mobo.. I didn't update bios as that was upto date, but updated all components, lan, realtek thing, ide drives blah.. (seems 2 fixed cdrom error) Then moved onto gfx; uninstalled, safemode- used driver cleaner to remove alot of old driver crap, reinstalled (wouldnt load up after this) and as before i left it, cleaned the kitchen :D and then came back, loaded fine, set up display b.s etc, no NV errors now.. and as of yet hasnt crashed.. :D Full dusting will commence after my first test.. as i was pretty thorough last night anyhow.. Now performing first test of running Simcity Societies as this wouldnt before soo gimme luck!! :D
