I can download just fine. I have Norton (i think a copy of AVG rattling round as wel, which I used because thr malware was completely blocking Norton from working) and used Malwarebytes to clear the virus.

While attempting to salvage my partner's PC I stumbled across this place. Not sure how active I'll be when I'm not fixing something! Here's hoping you can all help me!

I got the horrendous piece of malware XP Antivirus 2008 a few days ago. Having successfully removed it, all of the problems are gone...bar one. None of my 'indirect' programs (bar MSN messenger) will connect to the internet. All I have is Firefox and IE. I am completely unable to update any software or run online games, although this is still a vast improvement. I've gone through every security setting with a fine toothed comb, and can find nothing that would do this. The firewall and security settings don't seem to be responsible, and my antivirus, anti spyware and anti-malware software haven't picked up anything at all. Just to confirm, I'm using Windows XP Home edition.
