  1. I'm trying to implement a factory method in our application. Do you thing that this kind of implementation is a good one ? class Person { public: ***Person(PersonData personData); ***... private: ***int m_identifier; ***std::string m_name; }; class Employee : public Person { public: ***Employee(PersonData personData); ***... private: ***float m_hourlyWage; }; class Boss : public Person { public: ***Boss(PersonData personData); ***... private: ***float m_annualSalary; ***float m_bonus; }; struct PersonData { ***int type; ***int identifier; ***std::string name; ***float hourlyWage; ***float annualSalary; ***float bonus; }; class Factory { public: ***static Person* CreatePerson(PersonData personData); }; Person* Factory::CreatePerson(PersonData personData) { ***switch (personData.type) ***{ ******case PersonType_Employee:* *********return new Employee(personData); *********break; ******case PersonType_Boss:* *********return new Boss(personData); *********break; *** ******default: *********throw std::invalid_argument("..."); *********break; ***} } More... 3. and no, internet old-hands, this has nothing to do with ye-anciente Temple Ov Thee Lemur memes crossing thingamy. I just find it strange when parts of the internet I know interact; such as our dear own Barry getting mentioned on Kim Cameron's Blog, should have expected that sooner or later, given there appear to be about 5 people using Cardspace out there. Or Rory getting mentioned on Fake Steve's blog. I wonder if there's a service out there to trawl my feeds and favourites and find cross references? Hmmm... Now there's an idea for a way to burn VC cash if ever I heard one. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  10. Is 7 is being developed "primarily" in India ? or is this a diversion to eliminate leaks as was the case so many times with Vista. So much negativity from inside the Redmond compound it caused allot of turmoil as we all know. 10-12 hour work days, seven days a week the last few months getting Vista completed was ridiculous. Developers afraid to talk in fear of losing their jobs. Whats up at this point or is it still too early to tell. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  11. Hi all, new here and a realative newbie to some things I'm learning in VS2008 and .NET. After finding that a wcf service I wrote wouldn;t run when I deployed it to my web site (was fine on my development system) I decided to try*a most trivial example of a method that returns a string.* Still wouldn't run when deployed to web. Wondering if it had something to do with credientials, I changed wsHttpBindings to basicHttpBindings.* Same result.* Then I*implemented a custom validator class, and on my machine it is using that valiator fine, using UserName as clientCredentialType, and the service behaves as I woudl predict.* But I am getting one exception all the time from the web-deployed channel... 999 No hacking. What's weird, searches on web give me not one reference to that error.* The stack trace in this present incarnation, using a custom validator, basicHttpBindings etc is simply... at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() ** at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelRequest.WaitForReply(TimeSpan timeout) Can anyone suggest possible reasons*that services running fine on my devleopment system are continually throwing this error when deployed to web? By the way, the means I am using of testing is a simple form, the code something like.. ---- Private client As New ServiceReference2.Service1Client Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Try 'client.InnerChannel.Open() client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "blahblah" client.ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = "etcetc" Me.Label1.Text = client.GetData(1) Catch ex As Exception End Try ----- The name and password are handled by my custom validator, and on my development system this is defintely working OK.* Any pointers to possibilities greatly appreciated. 19. I just had a very fustrating conversation with some Indian guy, which fustrated me some more because I kept having to ask what he just said. All that stuff aside, I'm going to tell you just why you should never touch TalkTalk with a barge pole, or two/three tied together, ever again. Well, sometime between the 1st and 8th of March (ish) I went over my "unlimited" (oh, fair usage) network cap of 40GB downloads. However, I was willing to wait for my next bill, at which time I presumed the cap would be reset. I get my bill on the 8th of every month. When it wasn't reset, I phoned TalkTalk, jumped through every hoop like 3 times as I was directed from number-to-number before I got to a remotely helpful guy that told me the cap was reset every calendar month, rather than billing month. Pathetic. So basically, if I'm at 39.9GB on Feb 29th, and I go to 40GB on the 1st, then I'm screwed for the whole of March. Never mind that's flawed. Pathetic.. unfortunately I'm tied into an 18 month contract. ...and snails pace internet for the next month. Might try shouting down the phone line later :P Keep awaaaay from TalkTalk Never mind, it would appear I was blinded by anger :P More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  22. (I hope that I've picked the correct forum to ask this question about digital broadcasting and TV tuners in PCs.* If I've chosen the wrong forum, please forgive me.) We don't have cable or satellite TV. We've been seeing all of these ads on TV talking about the change to digital broadcasting for over-the-air broadcasting starting in February 2009. We've got 1 small digital TV and I've purchased a digital TV receiving antenna for it. And I've also purchased a Hauppauge TV Tuner for my PC and a digital TV antenna for it as well. Both of these digital TV antennas are indoor receivers, and are in different places in my house. However, the reception is poor at best for some channels and is downright abysmal for others. I am wondering if it is because of where I live, or if the current state of digital broadcasting in*our area is very poor?* Or if it could be something else.* (I think I've got an adequate video card, so I don't think that is the issue.)
