  1. i've restored the BIOS setting to default and tried standby but the same thing happens. i have also tried hibernate, that works fine. however when i restored the BIOS setting to default, just before the windows splash screen, for about 2-3 seconds a black screen appears with a flashing cursor in the left hand corner(didn't used to happen before i restored the BIOS settings to default). Is that a problem or is it normal? Also danzil i can get into windows so i'm not sure why i should go into safe mode? I haven't installed any new drivers and i bought all my PC components and got someone to fix them together so it hasn't really got a make and model, however most of the boards are ASUS i.e the motherboard, graphics card etc.
  2. i have enabled it but the same thing still happens. the monitor's lights goes from blue to orange and does display anything on the screen. Should i put the setting back to how they were?
  3. hi, i've changed the setting in the BIOS but the same thing still happens
  4. I'm not sure what your expecting but i went into the BIOS and went onto the power section. The settings were as follows: Suspend mode - Auto Repost Video on S3 resume - Disabled ACPI 2.0 Support - Disabled ACPI APIC support - Enabled
  5. i have done the hard drive error checking and now when i put it on standby and switch it on again, nothing happens. the PC starts but nothing shows on the monitor. the monitors light turns from blue to orange and stays at orange and i have to reboot the pc.
  6. sorry i'm not sure what it says but most of the time it either shows a black screen with the mouse cursor in the middle or my desktop wallpaper(no icons or anything else) with the mouse cursor in the middle. It is defiantly standby not hibernate. i press start>turn off computer>standby
  7. Hi, I've bought a new PC about a month ago and everything was working fine. I used to put it on standby a few times. It used to work fine until about last week when i put it on standby. The PC switched off as normal but when i pressed the on button the PC switched on but shows the "windows is starting" screen and gets stuck on that and sometimes it just shows a black screen with the mouse cursor in the middle. How can i fix this so that i can use standby again?
  8. how much does the recovery lab thing cost roughly and how long does it take?
  9. i've tried restarting the computer and then trying the error checking but the same thing happens as before. I have already tried to right click and click Explore but the same message comes up when i double click it which is: F:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable. What should i do now?
  10. hi seth, i have put the drive back in the enclosure and done that error checking. however when i tick the 2 check boxes and click start, the small window of the error checking just closes straight away and am left on properties>tools window. Can i do the backup option on it. would that save my data???
  11. what about if i use utilities like testdisk and others?
  12. The repair option is not available. It shows the following screen instead: http://www.sumedh.info/pictures/install-xp-usb/xp-setup-partition-format.png only with my 80gb harddrive, not the one shown in this screenshot. So then i clicked on WARNING #2 which it says on step 5 which then tells me to go onto the recovery console, however the recovery console doesn't ask to type 1 to go onto the c:(i only have one without a password on it). It shows the prompt c:\. Should i continue following the steps in the recovery console?
  13. i have tried what wolfey said buit when i clicked on the link i went into the WARNING 2 part because the repair option isn't avalible and then went onto the recovery console. however it doesn't ask me what OS to go into. Normally it asks and you type 1. what should i do, should i still type what it says in the WARNING 2 section of the link without typing 1 ?
  14. How would i initialize the disk and would i be able to save the data from it?
  15. the 298gb HDD is my pc's which is C: and the 74.52gb HDD is my laptops which is the F: which is the one i need the data from.
