Sorry for the late reply. I tried to do a diagnostic but couldn't seem to get it to work & started to punch all the F buttons randomly in a fit of temper, during my frenzy an option to restore the factory settings with HP Advisor appeared & I took the cowards way out & started from scratch, everything seems ok now. I wonder what caused it? ....now where did I put all those passwords? Thanks for trying to help. Snooky PS. Whenever I have any sort of problem the first sign is that the scrolling thing on the finger pad stops working, why is that?

Hi Wolfey Yes I tried several times but nothing.

Hi, when I switched my laptop on this morning my desktop, toolbars, icons etc were missing & it opened on my sort of greyed out documents page. At one point I opened a system config thing & noticed that all the services, processes & stuff were disabled. I enabled everything & had to disconnect from the power supply to reboot. It still opened on the same page after that but the page wasn't greyed out & everything I clicked worked. Now when I shrink the page all that is left is a black blank screen with a cursor that won't right click. If I expand the page I can navigate from there & everything seems to work ok. If I try clicking on Taskbar & Start Menu in the Control Panel it flickers slightly & won't open. I've tried booting in safe mode but it is the same. I hadn't used my laptop for a day or two & as far as I remember I hadn't downloaded any updates or anything & it closed down correctly. As you've probably guessed already, I'm a complete donkey & fairly useless, I've tried to put in everything I can think of. It's a HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook Processor - AMD Turion 64X2 TL60 Memory (RAM) 2.00GB System Type 32bit Operating System Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Snooky

Hi I forgot to introduce myself, I'm knocking on a bit 47 now  had a PC of some sort or another for about 15 years (anyone remember Windows 3.1) Anyway I haven't learned much in all that time, so maybe I can start to do things for myself with your kind help. Great forum! snooky.

I deleted a cookie by mistake in my Orange Webmail. Now I can't open it, when I try to log in with my password etc it says "it seems your browser does not accept cookies please go to help to learn how to enable cookies" But when I go to the Orange help page it say's OOPS this page has been moved click here but nothing happens! I have a HP laptop with Vista. The instant before I clicked delete on the cookie I'm sure it said something like.... doubleclick DART or similar. Any ideas? Cheers snooky

Hi I have a HP Pavilion DV9700 laptop running Vista which was fine until yesterday when I decided to install some windows updates. 3 out of the 4 installed successfully. Since then the sound doesn't work & the little touchpad mute button no longer turns orange when touched. I tried system restore several times but on restart the message "System restore was unsuccessful & your files have not been changed" (or similar) I tried to roll back the Conexant driver to see if that would work, it didn't. I did a search & downloaded & installed the driver again...nothing. I did the diagnostic check & it says everything is working. I've done a little browsing around & it seems there are a few similar problems with this. Any ideas please? I'm a novice too so that doesn't help much. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif Cheers Snooky
