  1. Thanks guys, I've managed to sort everything out thanks to your help. The memory module I wanted to add was the wrong type...duh! but alls well now! thanks again
  2. hi, I hope this may be of some use!......OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Version: 5.1.2600Service Pack 2 Build 260 System Model:PS261AA.ABU M1250.UK. System Type:X86-based PC. Processor:x86 Family 15 Model 47 Stepping 0 Authentic AMD~1989Mhz. SMBIOS Version 2.4.
  3. hi,thanks for your achknowledgrment of my problem! all I can gleem from the back of the TOWER is HP Model 1250 I'm sorry if this is no help but taking off a side panel I can see that there is no hinge of any kind, the hard drive seems contained in a steel cradle and although after undoing two screws I am able to withdraw the unit, the actual casing is preventing me from accessing the memory slots beneath it, I wish I could forward you a photo of the inside of the case where you would see my problem immediately! thanks again I'm sorry I cant describe this problem in a clearer way but........!
  4. Hi, I've just bought a second hand HP Media Center PC Athlon 64, its not bad but I wanted to install some extra RAM as it only had 512MB installed, I have a 512MB Stick and opened the panel to insert it, imagine my horror when I discovered that the memory slots are hidden beneath the Hard Drive cradle! I can see the installed memory stick of 512MB (half of it just! ) and three empty slots but I just cant get at em! This is frustrating because I know if I start tinkering and taking things out I would never be able to rebuild the parts, or probably lose em! any advice? ( I dream of how the performance would be boosted with the extra RAM I have but cant use! )
  5. thank you for your advice, using an old ps2 connected keyboard worked just fine!
  6. I've been using a Wireless Keyboard for a few months but have discovered that I cannot perform a complete Re-Install because the BOOT SCREEN only gives me 10 seconds to press a certain button (F11) to continue the install, I have tried to connect a wired keyboard but it just wont work!, although the scroll keys lights come on at the very beginning they go out and the keyboard will not function. I have tried Uninstalling everything to do with the wireless set-up but just cant get the thing to perform, so I cannot complete the Re-Install untill I solve this problem,Any help would be appreciated..ty
  7. i have been using a wireless keyboard for ages, now i need to do a full restore, trouble is before i can press which key i want the keyboard has not powered up in time for me to press anything, I've tried to replace the keyboard with a corded one but it just wont work,,,any suggestions?
  8. String Theory...... Greetings, thank you guys for your swift replies!.....yes, I have been tidying up certain areas of my PC,the Start-Up menu included!, you will recall I mentioned I had recently performed a complete Restore, this "String not Found" dialogue box appeared immediately afterwards so I believe we are homing in to the problem area!. Unfortunately, I can find no evidence of a programme I have either installed or uninstalled since that restore, may I restate that when I click the "String not Found" box in the task-tray, the small dialogue box that opens just has three lines repeating the now famous (or infamous) line String.not etc.........further suggestions would be welcome, again,thank-you who replied!
  9. Greetings all! Would you consider and possibly help me with this problem..... I am running XP Home Edition, have AVG and Spybot S&D installed and have recently performed a complete restore. Everything was going just fine untill a couple of weeks ago, now every time I boot-up I am presented with a small dialogue box with the words "NO STRING FOUND!" repeated several times, also, in my Task Tray there has appeared a small Icon also stating "No String Found" what it means and where it has come from I have no idea, I just know I cant get rid of it....would you be so kind as to offer a possible reason for this "Intrusion" and perhaps a way of seeing it off for good? I appreciate your time, thank-you
