  1. PC running ok again Hi I followed all the instructions to remove malware, rebooting machine after each step. Seems to be running fine now and google and yahoo search engines work as normal. Do I need to do anything else? Do I need to do a system restore and if so,why? Anyway, many thanks for the help guys! Cheers, Deb
  2. Search engine problem Cheers for that! I will have a go tomorrow. You say Norton's crap- why is that and more to the point, what should we use instead? I'll let you know how I get on. Debs
  3. Got a problem with my search engine. We are running on Windows XP home edition I think. I put in what I'm looking for in google or yahoo and it comes up with all the results as normal. Only then when I click on one of the results do I get problems. It starts off fine but then it redirects to a site with" info" at the top and another one is" k something or other". If you click on these results it comes up with a load of rubbish which has no relevance to what I originally typed in and often in a language other than english! How do I get rid off this? We have Norton installed if that's any use to you all. When I had a problem similar to this last time I paid a fortune to some computer chap to fix it. Do I need to call him in again or can I ,with my limited knowledge, sort it out? Using son's laptop at moment so I need to get it fixes asap! Cheers, Debs
  4. No i haven't tried that yet! Deb
  5. Yes i've done that!
  6. no sound laptop Hi thanks for your reply. I have done that and in the bottom righthand corner the icon shows that realtek version 6 is on a volime level of 66!? Gone in control panel of windows and sound card is installed and showing as working. Wouldn't let me download driver as detected i was already using the best version. I think this must be really something simple and that i am going to feel very stupid in the end but my god it's annoying and frustrating. Any ideas?? Cheers, Deb
  7. Hi i'm new to this forum and really need some help. I have just bought my son a new laptop. It's an Acer aspire 5920 running on windows vista home premium edition. Everything good apart from the fact there is no sound. I have looked through the manual etc and have tried to do what they suggested ie make sure volume control "wheel" at front of machine is working and that audio in windows is not mute. I've got a very frustrated little boy here as it's his birthday present and he wants to use the machine properly! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Deb
