  1. just thought i'd let you know i seem to have fixed all the problems..... downloaded the latest catalsyt driver 8.9 that did the trick for all my graphics problems.. and all the relevant drivers for the motherboard, so the sound now works etc... theres a couple more quirks to sort out but im sure i'll fix those now the balls rolling.. anyways thanx for the help & sorry for being a pain in the behind :)
  2. just been searching on the net as well an it seems the ati 2400 pro has a lot of problems with rome/age of empires...soooo maybe its that as well
  3. yeh..there wasnt one, i phoned them today and they said they will send it to me with the greatest of apologies.... ive found the avrock site so im going to download most of the drivers an stuff an have a play around, i figure the worst i'll have to do now is re-install everything anyway.. at least that way i can learn from my mistakes...
  4. no windows boots up normally, only the 'games' have a problem loading , none of them work through the shortcuts or file exe. rome total war doesnt work at all 'unspecified error' no report while age of empires 3 only lets you run the game through a diagnostic choosing to either play with no sound or no video but then it runs fine.... your right i was a bit hasty in my installation but when it comes to the whole installation of op systems im a complete novice, but everything else generally isnt a problem sooo i turned to you guys for a bit of help...
  5. touche... im just greedy is all...
  6. lol...nothing really only as explained at the beginning of this thread... theres other things going on there as well.. the ethernet controller & all the sub categorys cant be found/dont have drivers??? its just confusing me because on the surface everythings working ok??
  7. guess..guess whos back..back again...the real slim.. after doing everything apart from giving my computer a good kicking i got at least one game to semi-play... but still problems...it wont play from any of the normal exe. only when you tell it to play without sound it will play fine??? or also without video?? rome still doesnt work after multiple installs getting worried now plus the radeon pro says its only 512mb rather then the 1gb shown for the love of god somebody helpppppp meeeeeee:(
  8. im gonna be going home soon so i'll give everything a try... thanks for the help matey;)
  9. gotta agree, its a really cool site, tons of help for stupid people like me:)
  10. yeh, i tried that last night when i tried again after installing the graphics card driver...should i be running an installer/driver for the dvd drive?? there was disk in with the pc when i got it? being obviously stupid now i doubt that seeing its working and reading the disks..
  11. yep tried that..
  12. installed yesterday.... it was the first thing i installed on there as soon as i got xp installed, came up with that 'unexpected error message' no error report or anything. then i thought what if the graphics card isnt installed properly..so i installed that..rebooted the pc, the pixelation had changed so obviously the graphics card was working..tried rome again...same message...
  13. right..i know im beginning to be a pain in the behind buuuuttttttt.... is there no kind of check list i can follow to make sure everythings running ok?? i was just under the impression that as soon as i loaded xp then everything should be pretty much easy to use an install as per the norm... seriously any info you can give is really appreciated and i take it all in so i wont be back annoying you guys again..:)
  14. my brief theory is that everything was set up perfect by the company i got this from but then ive gone an done something to reset everything...** hum...
  15. rome total war
