  1. Cheers ken, turns out the ide drive was set as a hardrive instead of a cdrom so sorted now, many thanks
  2. Nope Ray wish it was, have tried that, it seems that i cant have the ide and sata attached at the same time, when the ide is attached the sata drive is just not showing up, remove the ide drive and it's back again and boots as normal, i know it used to work fine but its been a while since i used it.
  3. Hi all I have just dug an oldish desktop out as i want to rip some vinyl as wav. files then flac and its the only pc that has a line-in connection, eveything seems fine until i try to burn a disc to one of the burners, and the ide burner is not recognised, Checked the connections and one is connected one isnt, when i try to connect the other burner and reboot, my sata hard-drive isnt recognised but the ide burner is and my pc wont boot, now i kind of remember having this issue when i built the thing but am blowed if i can remember what to do to resolve the issue remember. Motherboard is a asus m2v, processor amd athlon 64x2 5600, graphics Ati radeon 4800hd
  4. heatsink fins all clogged up with ****e ..and also the heatsink and fan base has a boken securing clip housing is it possible to buy the bases seperately or is it out with the superglue cheers
  5. thanks nev will do..i will get back once i have had a look
  6. Sorry for the delay in reply ..reinstalled the raid drivers from the motherboard disc via a floppy drive and all is well ..well knid of am still a bit worried at why it happened in the first place though i have noticed the cpu temperature is running at 91c am going to check the processor and fan over the weekend and also the thermal paste see if that lowers the temperature at all cheers andy
  7. Hi thanks for the reply yes this is a raid set up i can access the raid bios but cant get any further than the initial bios page the drive shows up here but i get a message not enough drive space ,i dont yet have a floppy to reinstall the raid drivers though when i tried to install windows i pressed f6 and the raid drivers were installed from the windows disc (with service pack 2),my thinking is, this set up was working so the raid drivers must be there is it likely they have become corrupt my set up is Asusu p4s800-mx se socket 478 onboard gaphics sound intel celron chip maxtor 70 gig sata 512M sdram 400mhz megatrends bios not sure what the power supply is bit of a heap really i have taken the hard drive out put in another pc and i can get it to boot (in safe mode) was a tad surprised as they are different sockets but are both sata drives and i could only get it to boot in safe mode but it did boot in safe mode in the other pc yes i have installed windows many times though not on this set up that was just to let you know i did have an idea of what i was doing.tried to install from an original copy went through all the processes including installing the raid drivers but came up no drive to install to am a bit stumped at there being no beeps but can get the windows logo up though it is brief, its not impossible for the onboard speaker to be knackered cmos has been reset by removing the battery and pins
  8. the bits i am struggeling with is .why i cant see the drive in my bios but it shows in the raid bios and it shows in the boot sequence ...why is it i cant install windows to the drive as its saying no drive to install is it i have to download sata drivers even though the drive was working perfectly well before it went down
  9. Hi all hope you can offer me some help i have a pc that suddenly wont boot up at all ,all i get is a quick flash of the windows logo a very quick flash of a blue screen and boot sequence restarts not getting any beeps ,the strange thing is during the boot sequence the hard drive (sata) shows as being there but when i go in to the bios its not there at all ,i have tried reinstalling windows and have done this many times in the past but during installation it is telling me there is no hard drive to install to.have pressed f6 during installation ,i have taked the hard drive out put in another pc and i can get it to boot (in safe mode) and it shows in the bios i have taken another hard drive that i know works put in the pc and i get exactly the same set of events no beep brief windows logo brief flash of a blue screen and reboots thanks in anticipation
  10. Hi all ..me cousin has a dell pc dont know to much about which one as i have only spoke to him over the phone ..anyway he has recently got a virus he is telling me he has the blue screen and cant boot up he says he has tried safe mode and all the usuall things f8 f12 full power down ..was wondering if there was anything else i could do for him ..could i put a new hardrive in install xp then axcess his old drive as a slave to get his file back..cheers
  11. and things just get better...got a new adapter its a general fits all type ..coz its cheaper..its the right volts watts amps ...when i first connected it it started ok but then i had to disconnect and run off the battery and within 20 seconds it came up low battery and shut down it had been charging for over 2 hours prior now i cant get it to boot up as it starts to boot then shuts straight down ..it has a battery light on but is obviously not charging...i realise the first conclusion is the battery is shagged but should i not be able to run the laptop off the adapter even if the battery is shagged ...
  12. cheers all.. just had the adapter tested and its buggered many thanks to you all...just need to find a cheap supplier for the thing now once again cheers for you help andy
  13. oooh dear the more i think about it the worse it gets..if it is just the power adapter there should surely have still been some charge left in the laptop as it was charging at the time ..though have not been able to test the adapter as yet as have nowt to test it on.. the only possible thing that may points to it being the adapter is the fact there is absolutley no power either getting to or showing on the laptop what i mean is when i plug the adapter into the laptop there is normally a little light showing the connection and i am hopeing even if the mainboard was upit that these power indicators would still work ...or am i just living in dreamland
  14. My pride and joy is up it ...me laptop was plugged in via the power adapter on hibernate the wife said she noticed the lights dip a bit and when i went to try me laptop it was dead .nothing at all ..at first i thought maybe just maybe the fuse had blown on the plug but there would have been some charge in the laptop to kick it up but nothing ...now before i do anything would like some opinions as to what the most likely problem is am thinking power supply myself ..if it was a pc i would fiddle around but at this point never stripped a laptop ..so dont know if the power supply is easy to get at..or have i fryed the motherboard
