  1. Thanks wolfeymole, I will give it a try. Just off to get some DVD-R's! Lol :D If you don't hear from me again you know it all went wrong!!!! :o Thanks Jem x
  2. Hi Seth, ok that sounds good. Could I ask one question before I go ahead? Would you advise obtaining a new recovery disk set, or would it be ok to create my own? Unfortuantely this isn't something I did when we first got the computer.... Ok Ok, don't shout!!! :p If I create my own set of recovery disks, is it likely that the error will be transferred onto them? Thanks Jem x
  3. Unfortunately the problem has occured again and I am unable to download anything  once more. I have tried system restore, but nope didn't help this time:( Any other ideas? Thanks for trying to help me - you are very kind :)
  4. Ah, now my avg is out of date, presume this is because of the restore?
  5. OK, here is the notepad log file that popped up:
  6. OK, 50 million system restores later....... I think it might be back to normal now... I can download stuff to the desktop, by clicking save, but still nothing happens if I click open. I am going to go back through your posts and try that hijackthis thing now. :llama:absolutely no reason for this smiley, just thought he was cute!!!
  7. No, unfortunately not. OK am going to try a system restore.... I may be sometime..... It was nice knowing you if I don't make it back :p
  8. Sorry I just realised that the site you linked to was microsoft, so I found them. All by myself (am v.proud of myself now!!! Lol!) They are here, in case anyone else has this prob: Windows Vista Help: Turn back time on your PC
  9. Oh hang on I have Vista, not XP, do you have the instructions for system restore for vista?
  10. Yes chose that option. I'm not stupid ......Lol! OK I did it twice once in safe and then in safe with networking when I reread your message!!!!
  11. P.S. I have to get out of this safe mode it's horrid!!!
  12. OK, I have tried resetting IE - didn't work. Tried dowloading HiJackThis to both the maxtor external hard drive and also an Emtec Giga cube - didn't work. The giga cube was flashing and clicking like it does when it's saving, but when I looked for HJT it wasn't there. I am currently in safemode - URGH! - is everything supposed to be this huge!!! Lol! The last thing to try is a system restore, so I will read all about it and give it a go. Thanks for everyones help so far - really appriciate it. Sorry it's not working but I may open a book on user error being the problem..... :D
  13. OK, thanks for your help Seth, I'll play around with hijackthis while your gone! Jem x
  14. OK, chose Executable, clicked 'run' the blue bar zoomed up to say it was downloading, Then a verifying window pops up and asks "Do you want to run this software?" Clicked run again and then nothing. Did a quick search for hij, but came up with nothing.
