  1. Just thought I'd share a problem I had and how to fix as when I searched for this on through google alot of people had the same problem but no one seemed to have a solution. Heres what happened and what fixed it I had a new fresh copy of windows Vista Home Premium installed on my new PC and was getting all my programs on eg napster, microsoft office itunes etc After installing everything worked except for itunes and windows media. It gave me the impression itunes was trying to do something as the circle was spinning round when i double clicked the icon but it never actually opened or gave me any error messages. Windows media opened but then just sat there and it stated it was not responding I opened my task manager and I could see they were listing so I cancelled them tried to open them again, re-installed them twice still to no avail. After reading on the net alot of people were suggesting that there was a fault with the windows installation and to do a clean install of windows. This seemed a bit much as I had just spent 2 days getting everything installed so I tried doing this: Even though it said my graphics driver and sound card drivers were up to date i decided to go to their website and download anything that mentioned being a patch for vista. Graphics card installed with no probs but when I installed my sound card (which is a line 6 UX1) it made its way 2/3rds of through the installation before it stated that the next lot of drivers were older than the ones already installed which led me to believe the drivers for the first 2 thirds had somehow dissapeared as it installed them without telling me anything. Anyway I didnt replace the newer drivers as this would be pointless but as soon as it finshed my speakers made a popping noise to show there was life, double clicked itunes and everything was woriking fine, double clicked windows media and hey presto Hope this helps anybody with the same problem as I spent a couple of hours with this problem myself Try this first as its pretty straight forward before going to extremes of re-installing windows Thanks Rab
  2. I tried windows 7 there & they only seem to offer the upgrade the same as what you already have. I have 32 bit so I can only get 32 bit upgraded Thanks for putting it in english for me. I understand what you're getting at. Ill get everything I need installed and try to get it up and running, hopefully with no glitches but if worst comes to worst Ill just put my hand in my pocket and upgrade to 64 bit, but heres hoping I dont have to :) Thanks again. Much appreciated
  3. Im not sure if I do or not cause I havent installed all of my software yet but my last PC ran XP professional with 4 gb of ram and couldnt handle the amount of memory that the music software needed and simply just crashed out. This is why I went for something with the option of 8gb which is what the guy in pc world told me it could take (what he didnt say was that the OS wouldnt be compatible) I am entitled to a free upgrade of windows 7 in october. Is getting the 64 bit an option? Thanks for your help
  4. Hi This is what the scan brought back. I am using 32 bit home premium. I take it that means I cant upgrade to 8gb of ram? Your Crucial System Scanner Results We have received your question. 5. I am in work at the moment but I can post the results this evening around 6. Is there a great difference between the likes of these Kingston 2GB HyperX RAM - KHX9200D2K2/2G £76.99 - Free Delivery http://www.mymemory.co.uk/PC-Memory/Kingston-RAM/Kingston-Computer-Memory---2GB---FB-DIMM-240-pin---DDR2-%28Kit-of-2%29 Thanks
  6. Hi, I have just bought a new Dell pc which has come with 4GB of ram. I would like to upgrade the ram to the pc's full potential. On the website it says it can take 8gb of ram and it has 4 slots so I'm assuming the best way to go would be 4 x 2gb? I have looked at high speed ram but I really know nothing about it but im guessing there is a difference if one site sells a 2gb Ram for £19.99 and another brand is £59.99. What ram would be best for this pc? I use alot of music programs that can be quite hard on the memory. 7. Hi, Ended up taking back the G+ MIMO and got a Belkin N Modem Router. Range is far superior and looks alot neater too. Thanks for the responses
  8. Im obviously refering to the connection between my pc and my router, NOT the speed provided by my ISP....hence the topic of discussion
  9. Im def running between 117-140. Ill screen dump it later :D
  10. Yes, held the reset button on the back for about 10-20 seconds. As soon as it re-booted itself the wireless light started to flash showing that I was connected. I still have no clue as to what happened and it baffled my mate who has set up more wireless networks than Ive had hot dinners. But its working so I wont dwell on it. Thanks again for all your help
  11. Problem solved :D Got my mate to come down to take a look at it and asked if I had performed a hard reset on the modem router. I thought I had but all I'd been doing was restoring it back to factory defaults. Tried this and automatically both pc and xbox are running splendidly at 5 bars signal and 150 MBPS :p I would suggest anybody else with the same problem try this method first Thanks
  12. I did run the test and it came up with no IP address or Subnet mask. Gave me no information other than it stated the wireless usb adapter i was using. It gave its full name and model
  13. Over a year ago I did this, Keep in mind that I was connected to this network, surfing the net running at 270mbps, and able to access XBOX live last night. My flat mate unplugged the router when i was connected to it, moved it to another part of the apartment, turned it on and then decided to move it back. Since then I have not been able to connect. Has something happened when he turned it off???? even though he can still connnect!!
  14. Hi again, My PC is at home and I am in work but I was able to run a quick check on my lunch break. My PC was originally set up for Vista and I have downgraded to XP and hadnt realised till now that my ethernet drivers are not installed. I did do a little test, I checked that on TCP/IP protocol settings were set to automatic as well as automatic for the DNS I then used to laptop to set up a WEP key on the router just to see if my pc was seeing the right thing Sure enough, refreshed my PC wireless search and it comes up with my router stating that it is security enabled and asks me for a WEB key, Did the same with my xbox 360 and it asks me for a WEB key but neither will connect!! Is this looking like an issue with the router and not my pc or xbox???? I have restored the router back to factory settings and tried again but that hasnt worked. Any other suggestions??
  15. Hi tootech, My address for the belkin is 192.168.2.1 but I can only access this with the laptop. At the moment the channel is set to 6, which was working perfectly until the router was moved & moved back again. But this channel works fine with the laptop???
