  1. While browsing a website, firefox suddenly closed and an anti-virus (called vista) popped up and started scanning my computer for viruses. At the end, the program wanted me to purchase this software to clean the virus found. I cancelled the scanning process but it left me with generic icons on my desktop and windows continually ask me for an "administrator" permission to load certain programs not loaded by windows during startup. I ran your classic ATF Cleaner, Malwarebytes, superAntiSpyware, and ESET's online scan with no malicious ware found. However, windows continues to load the generic icons and asks me to manually load software with "administrator" permission. When I try to run "System Restore," It appears system restore is working until the system reboots. I then get an error that reads: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occured during System Restore." Widows gives me the opportunity to try system restore again but using a different restore point but with similar results. I'm using a Dell laptop, Vista ultimate.
  2. I ran your recommendation on chkdsk. Chkdsk must have found something and now when my computer starts up, the windows logo appears and then the screen goes blank and nothing loads up. I can load windows via the safe mode and ran the anti-spy software and malware software with no apparent virus detected. How can I fix this so windows loads up normally? Thanks, D_joey
  3. I got the error again and this is what the screen says: *** stop: 0X0000007A (0XC05788F0, 0XC000000E, 0XAF11E9E0, 0X5AB7B860) *** http.sys - ADDRESS AF11E9E0 base at AF0E000, DATESTAMP 480256bc Beginning to dump of physical memory physical memory dum complete Contact system administrator for technical assistance. I turned off the computer, restarted and chose option #1 in my previous post. Thanks, d_joey
  4. I ran the process you stated with my first problem I posted. This other error may be an extension of that problem also. Your process does work in deleting problems. Thanks. Additionally, loading windows appears to be slower than before my drive crashed, and to shut down the computer, I have to use the shutdown option in windows task manager. The latter part was like that since getting it back from Best Buy, so I don't think that it is virus-related. Thanks
  5. What does this error message mean? kernel_stack_inpage_error. MY old hard drive crashed a few weeks ago and Best Buy replaced it with a supposedly brand new hard drive. Whenever I get this error, I have to shut down the computer, restart and I get two options: 1. Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu 2. Or continue with system restart Option #2 usually does nothing. Option #1 resets things so the system will boot up. Thanks
  6. Fortunately, I had an older program of superantispyware on my computer from the last time I had a problem. There were enough updates on it to take care of the problems I had. The virus, or whatever it was, would not let me log on to web sites with antivirus programs or free virus scan sites. Again, thanks for all your professional help and very quick response. Don
  7. I have an XP that has something that is preventing me fromm logging on to mcafee website to download their anti virus program. I was told by the comcast/mcafee personnel that I have a virus in my system after they had me ping the mcafee website. The ping result was 127.0.0.1 which according to them was that the virus is trying to send me to another site. They sent me a "stinger" program to delete the virus but it didn't get rid of it. I tried logging on to ESET.com for their online scan but my browser gives giving me "failed to connect" error message just like at the mcafee website. I cannot udate my antivirus program or the anti walmare from malwarebytes. Any suggestions?
  8. Wolfeymole, My system is and has been running fine since I followed Randy's instruction. Thanks.
  9. XP does not load. Randy, I'm very happy to say that your instructions cleared up the problem on my PC. Everything appears to be operating as advertised. The last part of your instructions stated that you will instruct me in removing malicious programs if warranted. I will be waiting for that post. Thanks again.
  10. I have a gateway computer with XP. When I turn on the computer, everything loads up the way it should except for the following: the icons and the lower bar blinks off the screen every 10 seconds or so. This process repeats until all the icons disappear completely and I am left with a blank blue screen. The only thing that I did was downloaded and opened the Torrent program and Limewire. I immediately deleted limewire from my computer but the problem still exist. I can open an application using windows task manager, which is how I'm able to log on to this site. It is still under extended warranty through Best Buy but if it is a software issue, of course it is not covered and they reffered me to gateway. The computer is over 2 years old so Gateway says it is out of warranty. Can you help? Yes , I'm willing to get rid of all p2p. Thanks.
