Okay , then that's something I'll have to live with ; thanks all the same ,you learn something new all the time , I'm an OAP with time on my hands so it's not a great problem.

This problem has now been solved & I thank you very much for your help ;but is there a way of speeding up the process , each attachment of just under 10 mbs is taking about 5 mins to become added to the eml & I'd like it to go faster ?

WinRAR Many thanks for that , I've set up WINRAR & the 22 images are there as a WINRAR archive but when I try to attach them , after about 15 mins there is an error message telling me thar the attachment size ( 20 Mbs ) is too big ! I'm trying ti find a way of reducing the size but so far not much luck ?

I have 22 photo images to attach to an email message ,there is a problem :I open the pics file , highlight the 22 images , reduce the size by 25% but can go no further . There is an error message : 'Your current email programme does not support the MS command Set ( MAPI ) to automatically attach your scan to an email ' SPEC : Windows XP home ; Eml server is BTYahoo within Firefox . Any advice would be much appreciated , thank you. :confused:

Thanks for the CCleaner lead , as you say , it doe.s a thorough job in clearing out unwanted cookies , temp files , etc ; beyond that I don't meddle with it.

Software not installing I,ve now tried installing on a friend's laptop and it completed successfully in just 28 mins so the DVD's okay! There's obviously something wrong with the innards of my PC ; I shall have to take it somewhere to be repaired but before I do that do you have any ideas as to what it could be , I would like to talk to them with some apparent knowledge of the cause , before they start blinding me with science.

There are two discs needed to set up 'Over Flanders Fields' CFS3 is the MS version of Combat Flight Simulator, this is needed to extract certain 'cab' ? files to be used in the 2nd disc : OFF which is an adapted version of CFS3 which is produced by OBD Software , this is the main Dvd & depicts World War 1 air combat

New Software will not instal Yes .I was wrong , the game is supposed to unpack to 15 Gbs ,I've checked that there is enough free space on the hard drive.

New Software will not instal Yes , everything freezes , the mouse , the cursor , and also there is no response from ''Start , Turn Off Computer'' by trying to click or double-click ; then , after a time ,( 5-10 mins) , the cursor will not even respond to mouse movement :confused:

Software not installing I just follow the instructions on back of dvd : ''Insert dvd , browse it using windows explorer ; then I use the set-up exe icon ; then there is the option of using the CFS3 disc to get the CAB files , this is the one I use , or checking the box for the other option : using the installed system ; I've tried both. How do I check if I am the administrator ? I thought that as I'm the only person using it (it's a home pc )that I would be the administrator automatically or does MS have some quirky rule ? Last attempt reached about 95% & then ,as usual,it stalled on a cfs3zip file & would go no further. When this happens again is there a way of closing down the pc other than just turning off the power supply ? i know this is risky but there is no other option that I know about. ? many thanks anyway. :eek:

Software wont instal Thanks Match , here's the detail: CPU :IntelCore 2Quad Pro Q6600 ( 2.40 Ghz) RAM : 2GB Corsair TwinX HD space :capacity is 149Gb , free space is 45.9 Gb Graphics Card : Nvidia GForce Ultra 8800 ( 768 Mb ) DVDvideo game size is 1.7 Mbs I have the Micrsosoft CFS3.1 version already installed as certain coding is needed from this to run 'Over Flanders Fields' also , this is the SECOND dvd that they ( OBD software) have supplied me with , free of charge, because the first one misbehaved itself in the same way. This leads me to think there's a faulty device or flat battery somewhere in the system , I don't know because I'm no expert in these matters. :confused:

I've tried repeatedly ( about 6 times ) to instal software for a new dvd video game. Each time it stalls / freezes & will go no further towards completing the installation. Beforehand I disconnect internet,firewall , anti-virus & shut down all non-essential programmes. I'm no expert but could this be due to a faulty device or a run-down battery somewhere inside the box which needs to be renewed ? I've also run a defrag & checked for errors in safe-mode & all appears to be normal ! !

CURSOR failure No ,it's just an ordinary Logitech Trackball with usb connection.

Sometimes , after about 30-45 mins of use the cursor will not respond to clicks and double-clicks ; then it will not move and remains still on screen ; then the arrow changes to a small hand image ? Does this mean that there is a faulty device somewhere that needs replacing ? I can take it into PC World but before that I want to know what I'm talking about before being 'blinded with science' Can somebody give me a clue please ? PS : I've checked the drivers and they are all up-to-date.

DEfrag freezing Thanks all , All the new files ( 147 Mb )were on a reliable 'game'dvd so I don't think it would contain any viruses would it ? or am I missing something. I've done the disc clean-up but so far cannot enter safe mode ( f8 or f5 ) to defrag from there ? is there another way into safe mode ? Also , there is 20% of free space , this is enough for a defrag isn't it ?

The dfrag programme ( default Windows XP version)regularly freezes at about 35% thru the process so a full defrag is not being achieved. I've recently added a lot of new files so I need to get them sorted , Also, and this has happened once, a blue Windows error message appears ( in white text) informing me that the programme has been closed down to prevent damage ! :confused:

Defrag Windows defrag. prog. is now behaving itself & working fine ; I've also downloaded O&O just in case Windows stalls again.:)

Many thanks Tootech, I followed the link into Andrea's & found the solution using COMMAND PROMPT on the black screen and it has worked ! ! The integrated Windows defragger actually started ! it took about 5 hours to complete but now all is working a lot faster. This is a GREAT website to use for PC problems & it's free....................I'll have to make a don.

Defrag Thanks Seth, I've gone thru the 4 phases of Error-checking,this finished after at least 30 mins & came up with a message :'Disc Check complete' I then tried again with the defrag programme but then got message 'defragger is not installed; double click on Add or Remove in Control Panel ; click the instal tab & follow instructions ! Problem is that there is no defrag instal tab showing in the Add/Remove window to click on ?

Defrag I mean the Windows system tool DEFRAG which I've reverted too after un-installing the Disktrix programme which didn't work , to put it politely ! I thought that by doing this the Windows defrag would automatically work as there are no further options There is 44.7 Gbs of free space(29%) left AFTER installing a lot of new files(56 Gbs) I left the defrag open for 2 hours while it was stuck on 3% with no movement. Hope this explains more than in my previous message.......sorry.

Having recently re-installed the default defrag prog. it now refuses to start , freezing up at the 3% stage ; also I cannot go into safe mode ( tapping F8 on boot up ),it just reverts to the normal desktop start-up. Capacity of hard drive is 149Gbs of which there is 44.7Gbs (29%) of free space , so there is enough for a defrag to be done;I've just added 56Gbs( inc. in the 149Gbs total) of scenery files ( for use in a flight sim programme) where it recommends an immediate defrag. Maybe I should also get some more space on the hard drive. :confused:

Defragmenter This time I ran chkdsk it took longer ; Info:running in 'read-only' mode;Fparameter not specified:then it verified files,indexes,security descriptors. This took about 7 mins. Then went into safe mode & started a defrag analysis ; following analysis had message :''no need to fragment on this volume'' Anyway it looks as if the default programme is now back & working normally so I'll leave it for 2 weeks before repeating. Many thanks to all for sorting this out for me ,I shall keep well away from any 3rd party stuff in future. ! !:)

Defragmenter OK , I've done a search and found 3 remaining Disktrix files which have now been deleted. Can I now go into SAFE mode ( is this F5 ? ) & try a Windows defrag from there ?
