Internet Explorer 7 Security Warning
sangfroid replied to BeeCeeBee's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I believe this is the update; Microsoft Download Center Search Results . KB960714, you will have to choose which browser and OS, to download the right one . This is in case it hasn't come up in Windows Update. -
That's not 'bad' at all. Including the settings for allowing certain cookies would also be helpful so as not to log one out of a site if login 'remembered'. Very good.

I find this free program invaluable to the good running of my PCs. Piriform are supplying an excellent 'cleaning' program for free and , in my opinion, makes ATF obsolete. My suggestion is if it could be possible for a thread to be dedicated to the program showing tutorials of how to use the program safely, though in default mode it's never done anything but get rid of 'crap' on my machines. Thank you.

About Blank - How do i get rid of??
sangfroid replied to Chilli's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Spybot 'immunises' against certain sites if I'm not mistaken. It's scanning is lacking I agree but it does block. Very rarely it will find things other antimalware programs miss and worth keeping in the arsenal. -

Personally I don't use or like Stopzilla or Regcure or XortSpySE. That is my personal preference though. Try installing and updating Malwarebytes' antimalware; Malwarebytes.org . If you don't want real time scanning then no need to pay. I'd also install, update and run Superantispyware; SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware! again no need to pay if real time scanning not required. I'd also uninstall the other programs. For 'blockers' I'd use Spywareblaster; SpywareBlaster | Prevent spyware and malware. Free download. and Spybot S&D; The home of Spybot-S&D! -
CiD Adserver ....aaaaargh !!! help please
sangfroid replied to soyopo999's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
'CCleaner is a most excellent program Sangfroid but lethal if used incorrectly, this is why we do not advocate it in the mainstream, so many registry entries may be corrupted by an incorrect use of this program.' I understand Wolfeymole but sometimes problems need to be cleaned up, something like your 'cleaner' that comes with your standard reply. I understand that any registry cleaner or defrag or even checkdisc programs can go wrong. Ccleaner comes with full help files but used in default mode certainly helps more than hinders. I respect the forum's views, though, that is why I did not include a link. -
CiD Adserver ....aaaaargh !!! help please
sangfroid replied to soyopo999's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
May I suggest downloading CiD's own 'universal uninstaller' from their web page. Search the Web! . Go to section 4, paragraph 5. Download to your desktop. Download, install and update Superantispyware (if not already done). Start the PC in safe mode, usually by tapping F8, or F5 on some PCs, without internet connection and run the 'universal uninstaller'. Run SAS in full mode. Reboot and I would humbly suggest running Ccleaner to clean up after removing CiD. It has a mild registry cleaner and also cleans out temp files, cookies etc. It will also remove saved passwords which is a good thing I think. -
Possibly digging around will give some useless but interesting facts. Look at my previous post at the 'new' Time PC's and their 'flat panel' TV's. You might find similarly named people involved with the new business. There again, you might not.

Plastic Nev , I was referring to the old Time machines. Very well built but the software was, well, lacking. Systems running fat32. Still, having said that, I have a 2002 Time pc tower still running as a third machine. It refuses to die!! Supanet must be a good ISP otherwise I'm sure you wouldn't use them. Time and Supanet, at that time, must have had a contract of supply. Dissapointing though that the thread starter has not replied yet. By the by, the 'new' Time company; Computers, Laptops and Plasma Screens from TimeUk.com

It's taken a while to go through this thread. For the 25th of December; A Scotsman calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says, 'I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.' 'Dad, what are you talking about?' the son screams. 'We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,' the father says. 'We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her.' Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. 'Like hell they're getting divorced,' she shouts. 'I'll take care of this.' She calls Scotland immediately, and screams at her father, 'You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?' and hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. 'Okay,' he says, 'they're coming for Christmas - and they're paying their own fares.' :D

The old Tiny models had Supanet "integrated" (for want of a better word) in the system. If I remember correctly Tiny didn't allow Supanet in add/remove. I removed Supanet by using search, more advanced options and ticking the boxes for 'search system folders', 'search hidden files and folders' and 'search sub folders'. Typing Supanet into the 'all files and folders' box. I deleted all except any reference to documents. Now that there's Revo uninstaller it should make it easier :)

Try Revo uninstaller. Just read the help files on the program and make sure you follow instructions. It's a very handy utility used wisely!; Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems . Please wait for a moderator or administrator to OK it first incase they advise otherwise. Good luck.

My 2p's worth on this issue. PC's are cheaper and more readily abled to be upgraded hardware wise. If a gamer ,then no contest, I think, with the new CPU's and GPU's technology then PC's running Windows will win hands down. As for business then Mac's are fine.

Wolfeymole, I thought that originally, shooting stars, comets etc., but surely they are aircrafts flying by?

Just an update, AVG offers free year's service for those affected : AVG offers infected users free year of service - The INQUIRER . Tend to agree with Seth that, IMHO, it's not very reliable. Using Avast Home AV (for a few years) and no problems.

Don't know if this will help but a few years ago my ISP refused me to log in and I had to phone them. Was told that I'd been sending out 'block' spam from my email account. They gave me a new password and I had to run some antimalware programs, then, once the PC was clean ,to change the password again. That worked. Looking in my 'send' box was surprised by the amount of spam that had been sent out.

AVG antivirus problem now rectified; AVG Accidentally Harms PCs - PC World . Just in case some had a problem.

beeceebee , thanks for reply. I don't download a lot but sometimes use the site 'Gamer's Hell'. Quite legit and useful to test download speeds as you have a choice of servers. The demo I downloaded was Tomb Raider underworld. Although I have only got an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT card the graphics are pretty amazing including how the sea moves.

Just been reading that Sky broadband has dropped their fair usage policy; Sky drops download limit and tops satisfaction poll ? The Register . Hope other ISPs will eventually follow suit. It can backfire a bit this FUP as I tried to download a demo game (for the children- of course, ahem,) which was 1.15 GB in size. Three times the download failed near the end as the speed, I assume, was throttled in. Fourth time was OK but using a download manager. So for 1.15 GB bandwidth it took about 4 GB to eventually download. On an 'unlimited' connection with fair usage policy.
