Hi Goku I tried the reset but the problem persists. Hi Randyl the system restore function does not restore to any previous date so I assume this is part of the problem. Hi Beeceebee I mean that others who log on at startup on my computer do not have a problem with internet explorer only my login creates the problem. Using IE7 in winxp home edition. IE worked well till last saturday then it reported that it was "unable to display page" and diagnostics blamed firewall settings and port settings.I followed microsoft help step by step through to advanced user reregistering IE files. All to no avail. I then loaded ie8 beta and had same problem. Other users on my computer unaffected just my IE problem. I loaded firefox and it worked perfectly. Then during one run of firefox I imported settings from IE 7 (to make life easier) and the problem migrated to firefox. I deleted firefox and reinstalled with same problem as before and same problem as IE7. mmmm!
