  1. go to maxtor or seagate and download maxblast. instal it on one computer than make the bootable cd. same thing as acronis(matter of fact it is acronis). use simple mode to make backup images onto a partition or to cd/dvd. u can also clone drives with it.
  2. i would try to do it this way 1st. i've done it with win2000 and xp before. just make sure youn install your xp on the slave drive. windows should give u a start menu for which op system u want to boot to. if you want to do it the other way without erasing your vista you will need a tool that will resize patitions without losing data. norton ghost and acronis disk director r a couple of them. be forwarned it does'nt always work out. i had a couple incidents where it errored and i lost the op system anyway.
  3. if the sound modem card is still in there do u have the speaker icon down on the taskbar? if u do double click it and see if your wave volume is turned all the way down.
  4. than look here and get your manufaturer and the name of the device. now u should be able to go to the manufacturer's site or a third party driver site. :)
  5. this is how i've been doin it. havin good luck so far. you need a small program called SIW. i'm pretty sure i got it from here but not positive. run the program than click pci as shown
  6. somewhat correct. the software that does the conversion may not play in all dvd players. the one i made played in only 4 of 5 players i have here to test it out. luckily it played at school. and of course if the dvd player only plays dvd/dvd-r it won't play dvd+r. no matter what u burn it with. btw the student of the week thing turned out very well. the teacher said we were the first to bring in a presentation like that. it was 5 minutes long to the tune of boston's "more than a feeling" with random effects. if i remember u go into settings or options and u pick the mp3 file than set it to synchronize with the length of the song.
  7. nero is much more equipped than santa. with santa u won't be able to do images, data disc or music. it also does'nt convert from dvd to avi. just thought i'd put that out there.
  8. i use dvd santa. installs in seconds, simple to use and does'nt take over your computer such as nero. funny this topic came up 2day because today was my son's "student of the week" day and my wife and i made a dvd slide show for him to take to show the class.
  9. i'm not really sure if it's the same on me but on win 98 u had to go to internet options/connections/setup. but 1st u should go device manager and make sure it installed correctly.
  10. right click my computer and go to properties. that'll tell ya
  11. norton partition magic or acronis disk director amongst others will take space from the larger patition without losing data. unfortunately you'll have to pay for it.
  12. i've run into that a few times. the partition is missing files. what you were supposed to do (not many people do it) is follow the instructions in the manual and copy your recovery to dvd or cd's. if hp does'nt carry your recovery disc anymore you'll have to obtain a media centre disc and use your license from the halogram sticker on the pc. i also recommend that you download maxblast from maxtor, create the bootable cd and use the wipe feature. it can also be used to create a backup partion or backup dvd's. great tool and it's legal as well as free.
  13. if u downloaded and unpacked the exe's on the drivers u did find try going to device manager and right click on the video controller with the yellow question mark by it and hit update driver. than choose automatic. some drivers have to be installed like that. not many but some. hope this helps.
