  1. Situation resolved, it was the driver for the graphics card, went to Nvidia guessed at what my model might be downloaded most upto date drivers installed them all (one of em gotta be right lol) and bingo, smooth and speedy scrolling has returned. Thanks for you time Regards Andy.
  2. Nothing warning me against display adapters, but other adapters is showing 3 of which no drivers have been asigned 1=PCI simple communications controller 2=SM bus controller 3= Video Controller (VGA compatible) the machine itself is A Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P i believe but not 100% that the graphics card is from Nvidia. I am running a Pentium D CPU 3.2ghz with 2GB ram.
  3. Unknown problem caused c:drive to crash beyond anything the recovery disc could handle. Files and folders backed up on D:drive were scanned using Norton 360 all files and folders were clean. The progs themselves are fine, running speed is fine, internet testing is giving me a speed of 9.5mb (i pay for 10mb) so thats fine aswell. I am beginning to think its a video card driver i am missing ant the onboard or default one is not upto scratch, but i havnt got the relative disc to reinstall the specific video driver. HELP!!
  4. I recently had to re-format and re install xp. All went well and i now have a working computer, however when viewing windows of any kind not just internet pages, both the sliding bar on the right of my screen and especially the scroll wheel on my mouse are painfully slow. I have adjusted all the settings i know how to but it has not improved at all. All the drivers say they are working correctly, but it seems the whole page scrolls down one line at a time as if i was still on dial up. Any ideas guys?
  5. Sorry Randy, nice try but right click properties does not show an ownership tab all i see is general sharing and customise, there are no advanced settings to access apart from security and sharing tab and that still throws up access denied. Arrrrghhhh !!
  6. ahhh i see the quirk, when you say pulled c:, it was not disabled or removed, D: is not primary drive but a second bootable drive as my c:drive is not working, i am only using d: too look in on c: and drag files across, so eventually c can be wiped and clean installed rather than repaired. The welcome screen that froze is on C: that is the passworded user account that holds the rest of the files i need files Hope this makes sence i am a bit out of my depth hence my cry for help.
  7. sorry in the delay in replying but yes you are correct on all counts so far, is there any hope ?
  8. Not sur if this thread is in the correct section as it also includes a hardware issue as part of the problem. To cut a long story short......... 1 tower 2 drives, c:drive running XP and day to day programs, files docs, etc d:drive back up and storage. c:drive dies at the hands of a group of 10yr olds swapping files through MSN, c:drive becomes unusable (freezes on welcome screen and recovery/repair fails everytime). XP installed on d:drive but wipes backup in process (dohhh!) Used d:drive to pull shared files across from C to D in order to rescue and transfer to external source. all shared files easily recovered from c to d. Now here is the problem.... i also need some files and docs concerning my place of work and the junior football team i help run, but these were not in the shared files like my music and photos (for obvious reasons eg the 10yr olds!) The message is "access denied", the files themselves are not passworded or encrypted however the user account on which they are stored is (but only through the simple welcome screen/ log on). is there a way to route around this passworded and drag my important files across to d drive for rescue? Any thoughts or even soloution will be much appreciated and a sucessful file retrieval will result in a donation. Regards (HELP ME PLEASE!!!) Andy.
  9. A big hello to you all, i am so glad i found some help at last i got my self into a bit of a pickle lol. I have had some sort of PC since i was 12yrs old and i am 40 not long after Christmas this year and this is the first time i have had to actively search for a guru. Hopefully now i am here i have found a whole forum of them. Fingers crossed. Anyway just though i would introduce myself here before i posted my little problem (just as soon as i have found the appropriate section. See you all later. Andy.
