When I finish what I am doing with my laptop, I always close the lid. When I need it again, I simply open the lid and it works. Today that changed for some reason. Now when I open the lid, no connections are available. I have to restart the laptop in order for my router to be found. It is an Acer Aspire E15. AMD A9-9410 dual core. 8GB ddr4 ram. 128gb ssd. 1tb hdd

lenovo yoga android tablet
tismehi replied to joehelferty's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I pressed and held the power and volume up buttons together until I got a list of options. I selected factory reset. Then rebooted. I'm not sure what version if Android is installed on the machine but I know that it is a Lenovo Yoga 10". No one remembers the email or password which was used to set it up when I bought it. -
Thanks. I'm sufficiently interested to maybe give this a go but having read the details I'm really in the dark as to what "non efi and non uefi" is. I've never ever heard the terminology.

I use a tablet and a laptop. Both machines are really "asking" me to replace them; faults; age, etc. I was recently looking at "2 in 1" machines and wondered if there's a machine that has both Windows and android operating systems, obviously for use in the required mode. May well be a silly question, but I have to ask.

i keep getting this message "btvstack.exe - sysyem error utils.dll is missing. its an acer aspire v5 laptop. win 8.1 i3 4gb ram. 500gb hdd. i've searched online and got thousand of answers. so i thought i'd ask the experts.

I've so far resisted the temptation to move from w 8.1 to w 10. My concern is that I'm worried that things like printers, routers, etc, will have trouble working properly. I'm wondering is the level of support for w 10 at a healthy stage at this time - or should I wait.

[Solved] windows livemail issues
tismehi replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
don't know much about that Ken. mail works in the windows 8 apps but not using the desktop shortcut. quite frustrating. -
i use windows livemail on my windows 8 acer aspire v5 laptop. there is plenty of free hdd and sufficient ram available. a few weeks back after i clicked the mail icon, it said no new mail. i knew this to be incorrect as there was new mail on my smart phone. i looked on the net for answers and was led to microsoft where i was advised to delete the live mail account and reinstall it. i did this and all was well until this evening when the same thing happened, as before. tonight it said there was no more new email but there was on my mobile phone. any suggestions?

hi Randy, yes I always use the proper safe removal process for sd or usb devices. If I turn off the machine, remove card, restart the machine then reinsert the card, nothing happens. the card is not accessible. tonight I ran "slim drivers" program and it suggested i needed a driver for the realtek device so I proceeded to let it instal. it suggested repair and now I've discovered that if I shut off the machine, insert the card and then switch on, it then finds the card ok & I'm able to use it. weird or what?

hi Nev, once i safely remove the sd card, the sd card reader disappears altogether. before i remove the card, i check that i can check the content, (photos). I've tried this with 3 different cards and different brands too, same result. To access sd card contents, i first must insert the card, then uninstall the driver, restart and scan for hardware changes. when i complete these steps, the card then appears with a yellow mark. i then install the driver Ken recommended and it installs ok. It works fine until i remove the card and then I'm back to square one again.
-
cheers again Ken, i uninstalled the driver then followed your link and unzipped, updated and the reader worked - once. after i removed the sd card and reinserted it, the reader disappeared again. I've tried this with different cards with the same result. so it would appear to me that the reader is faulty, at least most of the time. Joe.

hi Ken & Nev, thanks for your help. i uninstalled the driver and restarted. i now have a yellow exclamation mark, - no surprise there. in pci device properties it states: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. of course I search the internet for the driver but it says none are available. I'm wondering is this worth the hassle as the cards can be used another way, however cumbersome. Joe.

the machine is only ever touched by me and the card always goes in with the label uppermost. i can't ever imagine trying to put one upside down or back to front. it would be like putting a cd in a drive the wrong way - possible but unlikely. i did as suggested and on 8.1 it is the same as you suggest Nev. the hdd and cd rom are listed but the card reader is not. i inserted a card and there is no change in the display. i have tried other cards too and all are from cameras and other machines that all work well.

Under device manager, memory technology devices it lists realtek PCIE card reader. I'm not at all sure this refers to the sd card reader slot but I know of no other. there's no reference anywhere to 'sd host adapter' and there are no exclamation marks of any colour.

i have an acer aspire v5 i3.500gb, (250 free), hdd, 4gb ram, windows 8.1 all is well with this machine except for the fact that the inbuilt sd memory card slot does not function. when i put any card into it, absolutely nothing happens. it used to give me the option to look at the drive contents. the slot does not even show up in "my computer" or "this pc". i have not been using the laptop too much this past year as i seem to have more time for the smart phone and tablet, (android). but it would be handy for sd memory card data transfers, et. i can still put the cards into a dongle and do it this way but it would be preferable to be able to use the original drive. it may have stopped as windows was updated to 8.1

thanks guys. i always, always use safely remove but it sure could be that the wee drive is corrupt and beyond help. i don't like to give up easily but i am very close to it now. i was missing the colon - well spotted. i retried it with the colon and sure enough i seemed to be getting somewhere as there were 2 files listed. but as i proceeded with the attrib -r enter i got the original message about being write protected. i then ventured into new territory for me and tried the windows + I, change pc, recovery, advanced, etc. but i could not see safe mode option. then my machine started behaving quite weird and i got a little worried so i gave up on that avenue. then i tried the command prompt (admin) using win + X and tried the attrib again and once more the dreaded write protection message. i thing i'll give it one more go tomorrow on a win 7 machine.

i have failed in both these two suggestions above. when i shut down, reboot and f8 nothing unusual happens as the machine starts up normally, albeit slower than usual. in cmd when i type "f", (my pen drive pc letter), it says "f" is not recognized......... this laptop is windows 8.1 - maybe that is making a difference.
-
used the diskpart suggested and all commands were displayed as above but the pen drive is still the same. i can't format it, delete or edit content or save new items to it.
-
i tried regedit instruction but there was no sign of "StorageDevicePolicies".
-
i have just tried another pen drive and i was able to format it on the same machine.
-
i have a little 16gb imation usb pen drive that was connected to a sat reciever tv box. we used it, ie made a recording on it and now i have removed the drive, plugged it into my windows 8.1 laptop to format it and it says it is write protected. there is no physical switch on the dongle.

thanks. i'll do that when i get my hands on her laptop again. hopefully soon. cheers all.
