  4. A friend brought a pc round and asked me to format it for him and reinstall windows xp sp3 on so I said yes ,I inserted my xp disk and formatted his hard drive but as it was starting to install xp we had a powercut for about ten minutes when the power came back on I thought just carry on were it left off so i started the pc again now all i get is, it starts to boot and a message comes up NTLDR is missing press f1 to retry or f2 for system setup the pc is a Dell optiplex gx280 ,3gb ram.intel 4 dualcore 2800 any help would be greatly appreciated

  6. No there are no error messages,I suppose if i left it alone it would boot after some time had gone by like I usually switch it on in a morning and sometimes go make myself a cuppa and as i return with my tea it is loading so it takes ten mins or so to boot.most times i get fed up off waiting I press f8 for boot menu and boot that way and that takes sometime to work too.and sorry I have no idea why this is happening "no just cause I know off"I have defragged scan for trojans malware and viruses = nothing .It's baffling me .
  7. Hi I am running widows xp home with sp2,amd athlon x2 dual core 5600+ 2.91ghz, 3gig ddr2 ram.My problem is just recently it has started to fail at the first boot screen, to get it to boot I have to press f8 and go throught the boot menu select the drive and it boots that way,I am totally thick when it comes to technical stuff, I can build them and use them but that is it. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.:confused:
