  1. ran chkdsk and it told me that there were several things wrong but done nothin to fix them. ended up slaving hard drive then doing total restore. Thanks for your help, much appreciated
  2. so if it is a infected file tht is the problem will it carry on to the pc i'm using to set up slave?
  3. if i am to remove the hard drive and put it into a different desktop pc do i remove the hard drive from the new pc? and also will it not just have the same problem on the new pc?
  4. tried it. didnt work either time. kept recognising that i had changed the amount of ram so that would suggest to me that they are both fine.
  5. havent recently added any ram. the ram that is in cam with the pc and has been fine. it is a pair, is it ok to remove one?
  6. I'll start my problem from start I was using my pc normally when it suddenly shut down. now when i try to boot it flashes a blue screen right after the windows loading screen and then shuts down. So i tried reinstalling windows xp but i then recieved another blue screen stating: stop: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xf77bfcad, 0xf73917e4, 0x00000000) setupdd.sys - address f77bfcad base at f7793000, date stamp 41107c8f please help
  7. is there any way to connect hard drive to laptop?
  8. I have been having a problem with my pc. Running windows xp. But it wont load and keeps flashing bluye screen. The pc is a hp and i have a 'hp restore plus' disk and a hp operating system disk. The question is if i use the operating system disk to reinstall xp will it wipe my data?
  9. used restore cd and everything is running like new. ran windows update and have sp3 working fine. must of been somethin i installed or done wrong before. thanks very much for all your help and have a very merry christmas.
  10. will give it a go. and let you no how i get on. It is a documented grumble with your machine (I have found out today!). looks like we are both learning then lol
  11. i really appreciate the effort you guys are putting in. thanks. its a hpxw4300 workstation i have a hp operating system cd for installing microsoft windows xp professional service pack 2. i also have a HP restore plus cd. not familiar with the recovery partition. will back stuff up just now.
  12. when i get to part of setup that says press enter for new installation press r for repair. i press enter and it tells me that it cant find hdd
  13. neither do i. it was when i tried to reinstall xp tht it says it cant find a hdd. i contacted hp months and months ago but they were absolutely usless as they would ask me to do somthing then phone back about two months later to see how it went. i ended up fixing the problem tht time myself. so i dont think the fact tht the xp installer cant find a hdd is the problem for the computer running so slow.
