  1. hi guys thanks so much for your help - took a while but by fiddling with the highest directories security settings i got it to do it on mass!!! not sure quite how but its worked so thanks again - wouldnt of done it without your help Jase
  2. Hi Wolfey Thanks for that - it has worked - have now been able to access files that were locked after the crash - brilliant as it involved some precious piccys Only problem is i have a lot of files to back up as it includes some of the many pictures & dox i have on the computer - is there any way of doing this as a bulk lot or being able to enable a search to show which files are actually locked At the moment the only way i can do it is by backing up to an external hard drive, wait for it to spot a file i dont have access to & then assign ownership to me & then start the back up again - but doing that for every file will take ages!!! Thanks again Jase
  3. Hi to all & Merry Christmas!! Hope i can get some help on here - had some major probs recently I have a Compaq Presario with XP. I downloaded a program last week which contained a virus which started doing strange things with the MS DOS - think it was that any way! After i rebooted the pc when that happened i couldnt do a system restore & windows wouldnt boot up unless in safe mode. After trying everything else i did a Compaq system recovery & repaired the XP. Even though that worked fine & kept my documents, some of my programs i had installed were lost & everythinh was taken back to as it was when i bought the pc originally. I have been reinstalling drivers & updates etc & slowly getting there. Am now trying to back up some dox to an external hard drive & keep getting error messages on some files saying access denied & it wont let me copy them to back up or open them to view. Its on pdf files & images like photo's. Its weird as when the images are in thumbnails i can see the picture but when i try to open it or copy it it says access denied. I've just tried to download an EFS program & did a scan but didnt pick up any encrypted files. Really a bit lost now - any ideas why some of these random files arent accesable when most are? Thank you Jase
