  1. Thanks very much for your help Ken......I suppose when a wireless network is as fast and reliable as ethernet then I'lll take a look at that unless someone knows any different! I'm constantly thinking how I could improve my network in terms of the best route for cables and hardware. Currently I have the modem on the 2nd storey of my house with two pc's connected there. From there a third cable runs externally to the ground floor into a 'switch' which third Pc is connected to. I also have an access point connected to the switch where an Xbox picks up a wireless connection to the network!! Hope this makes sense! Any ideas?
  2. Hi Thanks for the link...I'm aware of filtering etc. but wanted to ensure that where I have my modem is not effecting the internet speed considering that there are three networked PC's generally gaming at any one time in the house. Thinking on from that I use Sky and assume that their standard modem which they supply is 10/100 Mbps. Do you know if upgrading to a 10/100/1000 Mbps modem be better for speed on my network?
  3. Hi all Does anyone know what difference it makes if your modem is not plugged into the main BT point in the house but connected to an alternative BT point elsewhere. In my case maybe ten metres away! Secondly, if the modem is connected to the main BT point, does a ten metre cable between that and the modem make a difference? Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks very much Tootech ;)
  5. Hi Maynard Please forgive me if I have missed it but I'm looking for VIsta 64 driver...there only seems to be XP 64!!
  6. Hi Wolfey, Hardware yes is fine but not sure you answered my query, does mobo require software for vista 64? Thanks
  7. Hi all Just recently upgraded o/s to Vista 64 Business addition. However forgot to check whether Gigabyte supported this version for a motherboard driver, as the disk I have is xp version. Have looked at the Gigabyte web site and although I can d/l vista 32 driver I can't see a 64 bit version. Would this make much difference? Also I understand that vista automatically finds a suitable driver on install but is this just one to get you 'up and running' so to speak? System AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.01 Ghz RAM 2.00GB Graphics Card NVidea GForce 8800GT Sound Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Mobo GA-K8NPro-SLI
  8. Hi Dalo To answer your question, no I have not formatted the drive. Previously, when I have changed mobo's and cpu at the same time I have not had to do this when keeping the same hdd. This is why I am slightly confused as it's a new problem to me. I have checked and re-checked things i.e bios, memory, taken one graphx card out etc. but the same result everytime. Ok..if I have to format then I will do so very reluctantly because of lost data but none the less I would like to find out why the problem occured this time but never previously. With regard to the cooler fan supply, what I meant was that it is currently plugged onto the mobo albeit onto an alternative connector (see above) but if I used a cable directly from the psu would it be ok? hope that explains.
  9. Hi all.. Ok this is the current situation now. I mentioned earlier that I had started the Windows install process...Ive tried to do this again but what happens is that when it gets to the first reboot section off of the hard drive the Windows logo is displayed...blank screen for a second or two then pc resets itself and goes through the startup checks. If allowed to it will do this over and over. I'm thinking that there is a conflict somewhere and will have to look closely at everything. Would it help if I removed one of the graphics cards at all? With regard to the cooler and it's connection to the psu rather than the mobo, will that be detrimental at all?
  10. hi Polo Not sure of RAM type as not near pc but two sticks of 1 gig! Really don't think that's the issue though...could be wrong though! The psu is an EZCool something or other!
  11. Ok Match...will re-check. Understand why it's important to run through basic stuff so no offence taken. One last question I was thinking. The psu, is a 650 watt sufficient for two 7950 cards?
  12. Hi Match Thanks for reply Ok...wasn't aware of splitter so will use that. Although it being a 4 pin plug it can still sit onto three pin but obviously fourth pin not connected. Thing is, if cooler takes power direct from psu then you only get constant fan speed, presumably at maximum..am I correct? CPU was with mobo as well as RAM.... Using IDE HDD Checked BIOS but all seems as it should but. Perhaps I should re-check
  13. Hi all, need help on this one. Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI Athlon 3600 x2 GForce 7950GT's in SLI mode. 650watt psu. Rebuilt pc using above 2nd hand parts as upgrade which I know the background of. Therefore all working. First query/problem Have decent processor cooler but has a four pin power socket, mobo only has three pin. Is that a problem? also cannot plug 4pin socket onto alloted mobo supply for cooler as capacitor in the way, therefore have plugged onto supply for case cooler. Is there a potential problem there although the fan does run? Second problem..when booted machine pc goes through normal system checks but then stops and starts all over as if reset! Thought that I need to use Xp CD so booted from that and begun reinstall!! However when windows wanted to restart machine same problem....system check..system check over and over! Bit stuck on this one hence me being here. Thanks to all in advance.
  14. Hi Just the one case fan connected to the mobo, that's all! The only others are the processor fan and the one incorporated in the psu. This is why I can't understand why it doesn't work.
  15. Yes that's right, everything ok apart from case fan. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough at first. When I boot pc, fan moves slightly but does not spin up at all!
