Newly built PC, front panel USB dead
Hound replied to Hound's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I bought it a few months ago, and it is still under warranty, thankfully. It's strange though that both connectors on the board seem to be dead. Hmmm... I have not tried it with another case yet simply because I do not have access to one. I'll look for one though and let you guys know how that test went once I've been able to try it. -

Hi all. I'm having a weeeeee bit of a problem with OpenOffice 3 and MS Word 2003 compatibility. Well, not really a problem, just a bit of an annoyance. On my computer at home, I use OpenOffice 3 and I love it to bits. One thing I especially like in it is how you can add notes in the margin and I use that function quite a lot. I always have to save my files as .doc files though because at work, I have to use MS Word 2003. Now, my issue is, when I open up a document in Word that has notes that were created in OOo Writer, the first letter of every note, if it is a capital letter, disappears. And when I work on a document in Word and save it, no matter if I played around with the notes or not, when I open it in OOo Writer, all the notes dates and times are reset to the time I opened the document. As I said, it's not a real problem and I can definitely live with it but it is a tad annoying. Does anyone know of some sort of plugin or some such that could help fix that? It would be nice if I could make sure all my notes remain intact when I open it in different word processors. Any help or insight is appreciated.

Newly built PC, front panel USB dead

Thanks, but I've checked yet again and everything is connected properly to the motherboard. I've also tried connecting those wires to a different USB connector on the motherboard to no avail. They're still as dead as they were before. I thought maybe it's the wires going from the front panel that are dead but since they worked with my old motherboard and not the new one, it would be rather unlikely. -

Thanks for the tips :D I doubt I need to fear Barry in that case though since my sanity pretty much went down the drain when I was given an old broken down second hand Compaq as a birthday present. "Here's your new computer. I added a sound card but the main ports on it are broken. Oh, and there's a password on boot and I forgot it and I lost the jumpers."

Newly built PC, front panel USB dead

Well I recently decided to retire my old Frankenstein Compaq PC and build a new one and I am SO glad I did. I've been having an annoying problem with it though and I figure someone here might be able to shed some light where I haven't been able to. The thing is, my front panel USB ports don't work. No matter what I plug in them, nothing happens. I get no error message, no "new hardware detected" messages popping up and apparently no power at all in the USB devices. I figured it might be the ports themselves but I've used the same case with my old computer and the front panel USB worked perfectly fine. I have double-checked and even tripple-checked and everything is plugged in correctly to the motherboard. The back ports work perfectly fine. All of them. I'm thinking it might be a pin-out problem with the connectors on my motherboard as I have heard of such things before but I'd like some insight on this before I attempt to fix it myself. Here are my specs: Motherboard: Asus P5E3 Premium Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6590 Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 9800GX2 Memory: Kingston 4GBs DDR3, 1600 MHz Operating System: Windows XP Pro All of that wrapped up in a nice Antec Nine Hundred case Am I missing something? Any help or pointers you may provide would be greatly appreciated. -

Hi everyone. I just joined and umm I don't know what to say :p I'm not all that good at introductions. I'm a PC enthusiast and I work as a young Padawan (read junior technician) in a small company. I found this site through a Google search and I have to say I'm glad I did! Anything you'd like to know, feel free to ask. I don't bite ;)
