Hi everyone! Bit of a confusing issue that's started happening with my Laptop... Whenever I go to power up my system it fails to load windows and will switch itself off after 15-20 secs (windows logo can be seen). After that I have to power on the system again and it will load as normal without fail. During the failed start-up - I notice the 'resuming from hibernation' text on screen as if my system hasn't truly shutdown even though I know I have selected 'Shutdown' when I switch it off. At first I thought it could be a problem with the battery and have since removed this to isolate the possibility... however the issue persists. The same will happen if I switch power off by the wall with no battery connected. Any ideas? * Running Windows 10 64 bit Thanks

Hi guys! So i'm making a new website for my workplace and really confused about webpage sizing. I've designed a homepage in photoshop following a tutorial that uses a width of 1020px - which displays perfectly on my 1680px screen. Now what im confused about is how to 'scale' the webpage down to fit a common user's pc screen with a resolution of say 1024 x 768px :confused::eek: i've tested my current design in the computers at work which use the 1024 width resolution and the page displays in its pre-defined size of 1020px (basically filling the entire screen) but the design is focused on a centered layout and shouldnt fill the whole screen if you understand what I mean. The easiest way to describe what im after is a way of displaying my site with a reduced zoom percentage on 1024px screens in order for the layout to show properly. Hi guys, Been having a spot of bother with battlefield BC2 lately and haven't had much luck trying to fix it! Basically when during the game it may randomly Blue screen and thus restart my machine.. I've been having different error codes which i've attached in the text file which may shed some light on whats causing this problem. Hopefully someone can figure this one out! crash.txt

Hi Chantilly, That's fine i am more than happy to help you. Yes so according to the temperature chart, if your core temps are between 60-65 you can assume that your CPU is not becoming damaged due to heat. Different tasks being performed on the system will affect its load and ultimately its temperature. That's an interesting point, I wasn't aware of this. If this is the case you need to pay extra attention to temp monitoring, a clear sign of overheating will be noticeable performance deterioration and possibly random shutdowns. That was a good guess! If you think of the saying "Never judge a book by its cover" the same can be said for computers. They may look great on the outside and have great tech specs with the latest processors etc. but that doesn't mean the cooling for example is up to scratch. But like i said, I can completely understand the appeal of a 'space-saving' machine.. I think the idea is great but the limit to performance and in this case cooling issues haven't won me other yet. In regards to the spray it does come with a tube which allows you to spray in tight spaces but if you cannot get inside the machine to the guts then using the spray wont be as effective. If you spray the air vents you can only clear specific sections unfortunately. BUT.. if its still under warranty you COULD take them up on that and have your machine cleaned on the inside every 6 months or so. But to sum up, keep an eye on your temps and do you best to keep the vents clear as I'm sure you will anyway! I also wouldn't blame you if you continue to major problems and end up exchanging the machine for something else lol. Regards, BJD

That's interesting, keep an eye on your account for anything suspicious. Also consider Starbuck's advice, https is more secure. What you could also try as a precaution is to change your password to something more 'cryptic', substitute letters for numbers for example A --> becomes 4 etc.

I'm running an i7 CPU and before I installed a water cooling kit (as I have a desktop) I was using a standard Akasa heat sink + fan and my temperature would not exceed about 62 under load. I can see the appeal of All in one computers also but would imagine the airflow and cooling to be horrendous compared to a standard desktop case with adequate fans. BUT, what you can do is keep your machine clean, regularly removing dust etc. There will be places where you can't reach easily so a compressed air spray will come in handy. To my knowledge you can get liquid cooling installed in these types of PC's but that's beyond my knowledge in terms of what one you'll need or if your machine can use one. I would also recommend you download a program called 'HWMonitor' which can be obtained here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html This will allow you to monitor your hardware temperatures, it will also show your lowest and highest temps will using your machine. Hi Dalo, In the task manager is does list 6gb total counted Ram but at other times only 4gb has been 'found' so was curious about that. ok so what Bios settings should I be ideally using with this Ram? bearing in mind I do a lot of graphics design and some gaming I would consider partial OC if it meant a noticeable performance enhancement. cheers, BJD

Hi Dalo, Yes, all three modules are plugged into their corresponding slots on the main board. As far as I know, I haven't altered anything to do with the CPU so it shouldn't be OC. Last time I checked my POST i believe the ram speed was 1066.. so i'm very confused why CPUz would list this as PC8500F as i've just noticed that myself (must have copied and pasted the info in my spec at the bottom not realizing). The sticker on each module clearly states.. PC 15000, DDR3 Sorry for the confusion there. I have attached screenshots from CPUz and a screenshot from the Ram section of my MoBo Manual.. I have plugged the modules into banks.. DDR3_1 DDR3_3 DDR3_5 many thanks!

Hi all, I'm abit stuck and confused with the way my ram is running and is setup! I'm running 6gb PC15000 triple channel ram and have noticed recently under task manager that not all of the ram is recognised (yes I am running 64bit win7 :p).. and under the system overview in the control panel its also listed only 2gb or 4gb is usable. To try and solve this, I took each module out one by one after testing to see how much ram was being read in the bios and it appears none of the modules are faulty, but I dont understand why my system would forget 2gb or 4gb of ram??? could this be due to voltage shortages? I've been suspecting issues here as i've encountered various BSOD's at random times recently, 0x0C2 for example being the most recent, each error code i lookup seems to suggest a hardware issue. Now, I'm also very confused about what BIOS settings I need to have in order to use this ram properly... When I first installed this ram I did change the timings from a friend's advice (as he seems to think he's abit of a pc whizz) to 7-7-7-16-1 I believe this is the ram I am using and it clearly states it runs at 8-8-8-28 http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr3-pc3-15000-reaper-low-voltage-triple-channel-eol.html I'd say im fairly good with computers, as I do home pc repairs but overclocking and BIOS stuff I struggle with lol. Hello all, Bought an old shooter game for pc (House of the dead 3 if anyones interested) and wondered if there is any way to use the light guns to play it. I've tried doing abit of research but keep running into dead-ends when it comes to any guns capable of working on an LCD screen - not to mention pc compatible. I've heard the ps2 namco guns can be plugged into an adapter, would this work? Any ideas?

Ok so your MotherBoard is an ASUS M487A T-E Here is the Mobo on the ASUS website.. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - ASUS M4A78T-E Firstly.. What version of windows 7 ultimate do you have.. 32-bit or 64-bit. If you have 32-bit.. your system will not 'recognize' more than 3.2GB (4GB MAX) of Memory, 64-bit operating systems will use all of your installed RAM as far as im aware. Next.. Your MoBo appears to support a maximum of 16Gb of Memory (however you won't require this much). Use Computer memory upgrades for ASUS M4A78T-E Motherboard from Crucial.com to see what RAM your system will use. I would suggest you go for some Ballistix Memory - In an old system I built, I used Ballistix for gaming and it run pretty smoothily. Here is the Ballistix Ram you could use.. 4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 upgrades for ASUS M4A78T-E Motherboard, CT1022959 from Crucial.com Please note, I have attempted to keep the information here simple, so unlike Match, I haven't talked about Latency or Timings.. however that Ram should be adequate for your needs. I Agree with Dalo on this - I saved around £200 when I built my system (Specs are on my Sig), before you do anything you need to decide on.. 1. What you are using the system for.. so in your case Gaming. 2. What are you prepared to spend?

Hello guys, thanks so much for your expertise! So im pleased to report that my metal monster is back up and running :D:D:D I looked inside the case and found the dam CPU heatsink and fan had detached itself from the mobo (clinging on with only 2 screws!) so the cpu was in fact overheating it looks like. I was using a Nero Akasa cooler which, if i recall was a pain in the butt to install! Had tremendous trouble making sure the bracket was screwing into the Mobo, but managed to do it somehow, not to mention trying to attached the heatsink and fan to the bracket. So what I've done is what I should have done when I built the system and purchased a Corsair Hydro H50 cpu water cooler, which was a breeze to install. I've been put off using air coolers for my cpu after the fiddling around I had to do with the nero. And Whallah! It's up and running. So lesson learnt.. Always check inside system when pc has been in storage! Cheers! BJD:cool:

Hey all thanks for the replies! When my system was in storage I packaged it all in the case's Box and also used the plastic bag to cover it and sealed the box - however I will certainly have a look inside and get some air spray. As for the fans - there doesn't seem to be any abnormalities, the system is fairly quiet but all seem to be operating as normal. This is a custom built PC I put together myself (rather glad I did as I saved around £200 on components) and has never had any problems pre-storage to my knowledge. Reseating the components is a good thought, I'll give that a try and check the post screen. Cheers for the advice guys!:)

Hi Guys! Another challenge for you all - in the process of moving into a new house, so my system has been in storage for a few months :Cry: So when I got the system to the new pad and set everything up, it shuts down 10-15secs after being switched on :eek: 1st.. I thought maybe the power socket could be faulty, so tried different plugs but same issue. I even took a kettle upstaires to see if it would boil when plugged in the same socket, and it did. :confused: Most of the time I can reach the windows loading screen but dies shortly after.. also tried going into BIOS to see if it dies then and it does... strange.. Done a tiny bit of research and come up with a few ideas of what it could be: 1. CMOS battery dead or dying.. (but the date and time settings are correct in BIOS) 2. Power Supply Faulty.. (this doesn't seem likely, my psu is second-hand, but I don't think its a year old yet!) I'm really hoping its not the power supply - as i have quite a high end system and will be expensive to replace haha. What do you guys think?? cheers, BJD

Hi guys, I'm trying to make a custom windows 7 theme, i've got all the images I would like to use and i've also made a custom song to play when the user logs in. The problem is this song won't play when I test logging in. It plays the windows sounds that you can choose from but when I try to use the sound i've made it just won't play when i login. The sound is in wav format and is no more than 11 secs long - 4.35mb size. Is this too big of a file? wrong format? I've downloaded and used custom made themes before in the past and some of them feature pieces of music from games for example that are the same time length more or less and they must be using wav file as the sounds. Any help would be really appreciated, i'm learning as I go along but can't quite understand what im doing wrong? thanks!

Evening all, Just came into pocession of a dell M1330 netbook which unfortunetly won't power on. I have a few ideas what might be the problem but I don't want to spend money replacing something which isn't the solution. When I plug the power cable in the mains - the blue light on the adapter glows (as expected). However, when I then proceed to plug this into the laptop the light immediately goes out, as if the power is dead. The only way to get the light on the adapter to glow again is if I switch the power on the socket off and on again. This is why i have a feeling the power cable needs replacing.. What do you guys think? I can't test anything else for faults as the laptop won't switch on probably due to a flat battery. As i said I didn't want to buy something and then discover that wasn't the solution :) thanks! BJD88

Hi guys, Im currently writing a website for a music group and would like to add a few 'advanced' features to a particular page. Before I start - Im creating this site in dreamweaver and learning as I go along! so im still an amateur when it comes to html, but i've done a brief course at Uni on basic html.. Ok so I would like to add some form of 'Members only' feature that would basically contain around 5 users and allow them to add posts to a webpage. I wanted to try this out so I wouldn't have to keep updating this one page every time a news article pops up, instead let a user add a message to the webpage. I have a simple postage form however I have no idea how to transfer the message to a text box or anything like that So i also need a way of displaying the messages in an area on the page. So I'm looking for a very simple website user-account database feature similar to how forums works.. stores a few users and allows them to make a post on a webpage using a form. I only want the posting feature available to users - Not the general public for obvious reasons. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If this is not straightforward or not worth the time for a low number of users then I can result to updating the site myself, so please tell me if this is or is not worth doing? Problem Solved... Overheating As embarrasing as it is to admit to a mistake I will have to pin the blame on me for this one guys. So I went back to the start trying to figure out what the hell I must have done to cause this and... Basically when installing the new coller on the video card.. following the slightly misleading pictures, I happened to put one of the rubber pads on the GPU core instead of just the thermal grease.(doh!) and also forgot to remove a clearly labelled "please remove before use" plastic sheet! So hands up for being a numbnut! Lesson well learnt from this as it could have had a rather fatal result if the card was damaged, thankfully it seems to be ok although overclocking may be out of the question now lol. anyway cheers for your help maynard, appreciate it.

Hey maynard, Yes the only changes i've made to my system physically is the new ram and graphics card cooler. I forgot to add to my previous post - when i first started up the system i noticed on the windows logo screen some update text could be seen as if windows was updating / adding changes to the registry. The problem is I have no way of finding out what exactly was done here due to having a 'time limit'. I managed to log into windows normally earlier with a ray of hope the problem had gone but soon noticed the system stopped responding to requests and eventually entered a power-down state. My actual system is still running, just the monitor and any peripherals turn off (i have a special anti surge plug socket that powers everything off when the system suts down). I have also managed to attempt a system restore but to no avail. Another thing i've noticed is having 2 BSOD's - both have only appeard once at different times: 0x0F4 0x0DE Abit of research says the 0x0DE error is to do with the 'system pool' and read some very complicated instructions about registry hacks to get around this which I dont quite understand. (only know some basic registry) However these BDOS's have only every appeard once and i've powered on the system numerous times now with 90% having the usual issue. I have a strange feeling this could be a power issue but very doubtful as i've read a similar article on this problem and a new power supply solved this. The point is the system allows me around 3-5mins usage time before saying 'No not working anymore' - I would consider doing a format but of course theres the issue of losing some data. Any ideas?
