  1. Hello I received the following response to an email I had sent two days previously. Can anyone tell me what it means? For example, is it saying that the address is no longer in use, or it wasn't read, etc, etc? Mail Delivery System............... Delivery Status Notification (failure) The following message to <address> was undeliverable. The reason for the problem: 5.4.7 - Delivery expired (message too old) 'timeout' :confused:Thank you. EDIT: Email address on mouseover removed for security reasons.

When I entered '6to4 adapter' (google search) there were lots of people with the problem! 6to4 adapter is a component used for transmitting IPv6 packets trough IPv4 network correctly. In some scenarios, there will be a code 31 or code 10 error appearing beside this component. A possible reason is, the network adapter doesn’t support this feature. You may update the driver for your network adapter or chipset, and then try to uninstall and reinstall the this component. To uninstall the component, right-click the item in Device Manager and select Uninstall. To reinstall the component, in Device Manager, Action – Add Legacy Hardware – Next – “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list” – Network adapters – Microsoft – Microsoft 6to4 Adapter – Next – Finish the wizard. If the steps above doesn’t solve the problem, your network adapter is not a supportive one for this component. You can completely ignore this error, if there isn’t IPv6 network deployed in the environment. The error won’t affect your system. To remove the error message, please right-click the Command Prompt and run as administrator, type the command netsh in 6to4 set state disable, press Enter. The component will be disabled and hidden.   3. So, what do I do about the recurring notification panel? Should I delete the five 'unknown devices' I found before? :confused: No, it's not on a network (home p.c.).
  4. This is what happened: Prompt window appeared: 'Windows needs your permission to continue.' Clicked-on that. Then... 'Installing device driver software.' Searching Windows Update... Unidentified Device..........Pending (changed to Failed, against each in turn) Unidentified Device Unidentified Device Unidentified Device Unidentified Device Then... 'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.' '...found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.' 'Microsoft 6to4 adapter.' 'Insufficient system resources exists to complete the rquested service.' Note: The 'Unidentified Device' (x5) mentioned here, seems to relate to what I found listed before!

  6. Hello Jelly Bean Yes, I'll follow your instructions, and get back to you if it's solved it! But, I've had this p.c about seven months now, isn't it a bit strange that it's suddenly discovered that a driver is missing for so-called NEW hardware?

  9. Yes, under Programs and Features, I looked at the list of programs listed under Uninstall or Change a Program. There was no program listed as Driver Detective. I am quite sure that I have not recently connected any new devices or hardware. :cool:
  10. No exclamation marks, red X's, etc. Though, under Network Adapters, there are 5-entries called, Unknown Device. I have not installed this. I looked under, Uninstall or change a program (can't see Add/Remove Programs - on Vista?). Doesn't show there.
  11. Hello again. Over the last week or two, whenever I switch-on the p.c (at start-up), a panel appears on the Toolbar (on the bottom right) telling me, 'Installing Driver Device Software.' And then, a panel opens up on the screen with the following options within it: 'Found new hardware' 'Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device.' 'Locate and install driver sotware (recommended).' 'Ask me again later.' 'Don't show this message again for this device.' The point is, I haven't installed any new hardware??? Furthermore, it won't go away whatever I click-on from the above options. Any advice please.
  12. sorted! I took the advice here, deleted CA and installed Avira Antivir Personal. It looks easier in layout; and during a full scan, I liked the information for percentage of files scanned and time elapsed counters – helpful additions. It also only took 40 mins to complete, whereas CA took about 2 hours! I note the advantages of 'all in one' packages, but the disadvantage if a problem occurs then all the doors are left open. I also wonder how well any anti-malware company can design a 'bolt together' program, and how effective the component parts (AV, firewall, etc) are individually versus a standalone program, e.g. Malewarebytes...but, I'm just guessing. I'll have a look at Spywareblaster, etc, and also McAffee 'site advisor' looks interesting – can it really warn you about malware 'lying in wait' at websites? Many thanks for all the advice.
  13. Hello again I last posted here with the thread, 'CA AV working?' which we managed to solve, although the problem possibly lay with the Anti-Virus all along? CA (Computer Associates) are reminding me that my sub is about to expire, but in view of my past experience with them maybe it's a good time to switch to another AV provider. You have provide a list of recommended AV's, but what's the latest on this list? Has one in particular stood-out over time as providing reliable protection, and/or better ease of use (for a non-expert) - any opinions? Is there any difference between 'free' vs 'paid for,' for example? 'Paid for' seems to be typically about £40. At the moment, I have Malware Bytes, AdAware, CA AV, Comodo Firewall and CCleaner installed (but, according to other posts here I should remove this last one!). I look forward to hearing from anyone out there!

  15. postscript to CA AV working? In case it's useful to anybody else? I finally got a 'helpful' email from CA (Computer Associates) about the infections on my pc: They suggested I download an updated Security Suite. I ran a full scan, and it found the two infections, but this time one (only one!) of them had been moved into the Quarantine zone, and I could only delete that one manually (huh?). I then did a selective scan for C:|My Docs, etc., and afterwards both infections were gone!!! So why were CA AV sending me automated updates all this time, yet I had not been updated from a 2007 Security Suite to the 2009 version? For this reason, I hesitate to recommend CA despite that the solution finally lay with them. Though, as the solutions provided here hadn't cleared the infections, I wonder if the infections were particularly designed to attack CA?
