  1. guess what its sorted :) when i put the old graphics card and reinstalled the drivers it works. The wife thinks i'm a little mad cheering as my pc just restarts now for the 15th time but i'm that pleased. I dont really understand what has happened cos i both updated and reinstalled the drivers last week to no avail? Might have got these from a different source maybe? Thank you all, especially match (who said to reinstall drivers a week ago) Thoroughly impressed on all levels with the help i've received. Just hope people keep donating after they have received help to keep this service alive. Many thanks again. Ps Do You know any one who wants to buy a spare graphics card. ;)
  2. ok cheers, i'm having a fiddle around with drivers etc at the moment, havent been able to boot it properly since about 4 but put old graphics card in and its booted up. so ill try some driver fiddling and restart it and if it doesnt restart that'll be it for tonight anyway :( thanks again
  3. hi, havent got another slot unfortunately. took out each ram in turn and swapped no difference. just to check took out graphics card again and it def boots up fine with beep and drive lights etc all flashing.
  4. hi, me again unfortunately. Got my new graphics nvidia gf 8400gs, fitted it, sorted settings etc worked ok. Went to do the usual after new software restart and same problem occurs pc restarts (no beep) but monitor doesnt? :(
  5. thanks for all your help, and the list. One final question if i buy a graphics card new i would imagine my old one will no longer be available, just wondered what i have to look for. mine is currrently nvidia geforce 7600gs 256mb ddr2 , and i noticed the interface said pci express is that all i have to look ?for i.e. would this do? NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI-E- microdirect.co.uk thanks again
  6. i dont think thats made any difference unfortunately, as its back in its resting mode! worth a try though.
  7. ok will give my pc a quick blow!!! just in case
  8. ok cheers any recommendations would be greatly received. i dont really play games that much anymore but probably would like to keep to at least the same sort of standard as i have nowish. Thanks for all your help as well. I will be sure to put in a donation shortly. :)
  9. also just to add to that, after taking the card out and putting it back in again, it now has started up only 5 mins after it doing its restart crash(normally takes an hour or so)
  10. hi, just took out graphic card after it had crashed and restarted it and i did get the beep like on a proper start up? guessing that means i'm off to ebay for a new one???
  11. hi, thanks for all the replies, sorry so long to reply but i have to wait each time for at least an hour with it unplugged to get it to come on again. When it boots up normally(ie when the monitor comes on with it) there is one short loud beep just after the screen where you can enter setup/ safe mode etc. When i restart it (and the monitor doesnt come back on there are no beeps at all. Just a sort of click as it shuts down and tries to restart. I've noticed that the drive busy type lights dont flash either as it does when it boots up normally. regards
  12. i think i know the beep in question i dont think i heard it on the restart but now its in its power off mode for the next few hours. I heard a tiny beep as it closed down but i think i know the one ur on about and its much louder.
  13. Hi, just tried to listen for the restarting noises and there arent any. From my limited knowledge i noticed the pc doesnt seem to be making all the normal "whurrs and clicks" that it normally does on a boot up. Its almost like it isnt restarting, if this makes sense? its just a continuous noise. regards
  14. ok cheers will try that when i can get it to start up again :(
