need to stop this now,wife is starting to moan I tried overclocking got to 3.0 ghz. got 8 fans running (not on full) in case and temps seem to be around low 30s on idle and mid 40s on full load got 2 x scythe 4 fan controllers working all fans. Installed a larger hard drive and both drives seem to level out at 30 degrees. Seems i can run vista 64 bit and only have 32 installed so from what i have read on here i can contact microsoft who will send a disc and just want postage charges, keep the good work going you guys and i will keep looking at what info i can pick up from you guru's. any problems i have had i have just read previous posts and i have found all the answers

I have read loads of posts and must admit i think i got a bit of the "upgrade bug" So on Tuesday ordered a Asus P5Q Pro and coolermaster chassis both arrived wednesday, picked up a Nvidia 260 on way home and spent about 5 hours putting mobo in chassis and taking bluray hard drive and anything else i could find out of Acer system and transferring over. I put 9800GT in my sons desktop and then switched my all new system on! Oh dear nothing happened! sat down had a cup of tea read the handbook again and realised i had put a 4 pin powelead in to mobo instead of 8 pin. Started it up again and everything works. This may sound daft but i actually feel as though i have achieved something, anyway i have a very small issue which someone may be able to help me out on, i transferred a 3.5 card reader from my old system and it has 2 leads 1 to usb connection and the other to a 1394 socket. I can only dind 1 x 1394 socket on the mobo and as this is used by the stuff on the top of the computer i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how i can connect this lead.

Thanks for that Match, read it and understand a little more but really want to know is moving PC2 5300 to PC2 8500 going to make much differnce at all, i have just upgraded GPU to 9800GT and that was worth it as was PSU (as i had to for GPU) following everyones advice but am i better just staying as i am with regard to ram or will the move knock my socks off?

sorry never finished off cpu q6600 fsb (from what i understand 1066 i have 2 x 2 gig ddr2 pc2 5300 i think i could have 2 x 2 gig ddr2 pc2 8500 my question is what wopuld it improve?

Sorry couldnt wait so had to go to local shop and bought a 9800gt 512mb ddr 3 etc cost a little more than at play.com but to be honest i couldnt wait. No major problems just had a little problem with (i think sata leads to mobo) they got in the way a little and i had to move one of the hard disks but everything works fine and for the first time i could actually play a game. thank you very much to everyone and i shall read some posts everyday to get ideas for upgrades

thanks for the advice i have upgraded the psu today to 800W may be a bit of overkill but it wasnt much more than a 600w which i was considering, had a look inside the case and know what i need to do, next mission will be to order a graphics card and then get it fitted thanks again for everyones help.

Hi Dalo I have a samsung syncmaster T220 (22 inch). Only really got one so far empire total war but am wanting to play a few more and thats why i wanted to know if i dould upgrade

yes that is the one as i said Q6600 640 hard drive and when i had a look 250W. why is there a problem before i go rushing out? let me know please

checked psu 250 watt which seems pretty crap. will it take a 9800?

budget is perhaps around the £100 - £150 struggling on psu as i cant find information anywhere so perhaps i need to take the case to bits

Hi new to all this and bought a desktop which is fine for internet browsing, email etc but when i try to play games (empire total war) its a bit slow. The system is acer 3641 uk version with vista home premium 32 bit. cpu is core2 quad q6600. 640 hard drive and i think 3 gig of ram. from what i understand it has integrated graphics on the motherboard (NVIDIA GeForce 7100/nforce 630i - not sure what motherboard. what i need to ask is if and what i can upgrade to graphics card wise without increasing power to obtain better results with games. any help would be most appreciated
