Thanks for the response. No it's a very basic Word data base that I'm trying to set up for a birthday party for my husband and all I want to do is automatically add up the numbers who have accepted in the last field.

Please can someone tell me what to key in to get a numeric total in a field in my database. Idiot-proof instructions/help please ?

When communicating via Skype I can hear the person I am calling but they are unable to hear me. I am using a "one" ear headset. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Elizabeth
