  1. Have old computer that the hard drive seems to have stopped working (Maxtor 2B020H1) that I use for the kids to browse the web/play games. I have been given another hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80gb IDE ST380215A) by a friend to use as a replacement. Can anyone tell me if this will work in the computer and if it is easy enough to change with the old one or should I just bin the thing and let them use my other computer. Any help would be appreciated. Roddy
  2. Thanks again Thanks. I changed the memory back to the old sim and it was ok. I checked a couple of posts about the same problem and I think I was missing an update. I installed all updates then changed the sim back and it seems fine I then downloaded service pack 3 and the pc's running even better. Another lesson learned, Always take important updates. :o
  3. Just going to check will post back
  4. Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. When trying to shut down my other computer running XP Pro I get a blue screen saying there a memory error and giving me the tech code STOP 0X0000008E 0XC0000005, 0X80661BBF, 0XF1C00B24, 0X00000000 It says begining a dump of physical memory and dumping it to disk and starts a count-up. If left the computer re-boots eventually and the only way of turning it off is to pull the plug. I've tried starting the computer and shutting it down a few times and if i don't start internet explorer it shuts down fine but if i go on internet it wont shut down. I've recently installed 1Gb ram and it started about a week after installing so not sure if this is causing problem or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Roddy
  5. I had the same warning a couple of months ago after my son was downloading music?. I tried installing AV and Spyware software but eventually re-formatted drive and re-installed programmes and set internet security level to high. Since then I've had no problems.
  6. Thanks :):):) Sorry never got back before but ended up reformating drive and re-installing programmes with the security level set to high and comp now runs like clockwork.
  7. thanks Thanks thats got it sorted. Now got another slight problem. Started getting an error box at start up titled RUNDLL saying Error loading C:/WINDOWS/Ubugazatijo.dll and that the spcified module could not be found. If I close the box the computer starts and runs fine. Am I ok to just keep ignoring the warning.
  8. I tried typing Poledit.exe and the comp couldn't find it?
  9. thanks Thanks. I did as you said and can now turn computer off at shutdown. I have now got a new icon on the taskbar that looks like a monitor with something through it (its hard to see exactly what it is) When I hover the pointer over it it gives me a message saying (Available profile space 1958KB) is there any way of turning this off?
  10. Hi I'm new to this but I've got a mesage in my taskbar between the volume icon and the wireless connection. A red circle with a white cross giving me a warning that I've my profile space and I can't turn PC off unless I unplug it from the wall. It started as soon as I deleted an free anti-virus program AVG that my son had downloaded from a radio station website. Help please
