Hi guys, I am hoping that you can help with my driver problem on my laptop.
OK, so here it is. My CD/DVD drive has stopped working on my laptop. It opens when you press the button and spins up when you put a disc in but that is all. The system is not seeing it. It is not there in My Computer. But it is listed in Device Manager with a yellow (!) telling me that a driver is needed.
Now I know what to do, but it is not working. I try to update the driver by letting it look on the net, by pointing at my recovery disc (copied to a external hard drive) but it does not find a driver.
I have tried rolling back driver but that won't have it either.
I have tried system restore but that won't work. (It says unable to restore...)
I have tried googling the model number and laptop model. I have found one driver, but it won't install, it's saying wrong operating system even though it was the right one (XP).
The Compaq / HP website for the laptop model does not even list a driver at all for a DVD drive. !

I have tried the live help - who were no help at all see text
I have done everything in the link he gave me http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00678214&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1828708
but still no result.
I have spent about 6 hours in total now and am just about ready to throw the thing out the window.
If anyone can offer any advice further, or can find me a driver that will work I would be most gratefull.
Laptop is compaq presario v5094ea
s/n cnd60601pc
p/n es273 ea#abu
Windows XP
DVD drive model number is hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-4082n
Would running the installation restore disc and do a repair solve it? I don't really want to do a clean install.
Please, someone put me out of my misery.
Steve
