Wow, thanks for that. It sounds like I'm in the same situation as that. I took on board what was said on the forum yesterday and looked into my bandwidth usage along with the tiscali fair usage policy and I couldn't imagine using the "100gig" amount that they state as their capping point. Also when I got in from work today I checked the gaming forum, and a friend of mine who works at tiscali had posted that he'd checked my usage from the previous month and it was nowhere near what would be required for them to cap me. Looks like I'll be looking for a new ISP then, let's just hope they let me go!

Thanks for the advice, but just to clarify, there is only two computers on my network, one is my own and one is the one the rest of my family uses (i.e. both computers in one household), but I kind of look after them both when it comes to any problems so it wouldn't be a spyware situation or anything. I was just wondering if there was any way to view total network usage from the router interface page or anything as I'm just learning as I go with this stuff. I've installed the software on both computers now and have been checking both and it's just what I was looking for, cheers.

Thanks for the response. I have been trying to view it on the website but it seems to be down or something as it won't give me the usage amounts, it just gives me a blank table as if I never typed in any from and to dates on the previous page. I'll have to try calling them I guess, which I was trying to avoid, as I hate call centres! Is there no way I can see somewhere on my computer how much of the bandwidth is being used by my computer and how much is being used by the other one on the network?

Before I continue with this, Wolfeymole, if you read this, I have uninstalled utorrent, it's gone, I am not asking for any help with anything to do with any p2p software. Please can we start again? Now, as I said I have uninstalled that (which I very rarely used anyway) but I am not the only user on my network. I can obviously control my own internet usage, but is there a way I can then monitor the actual bandwidth I am using by gaming and also the bandwidth being used by other people on my network so I can ask them to keep it down as well?

What did I do wrong?

Yeah I've already used that to check my speeds. I checked at times when I couldn't connect to the game and download from Sky Player and also at times when I could, and the speed is no different. I actually checked earlier today while playing the game and it was at around 3.1mbps and then tested again when I couldn't connect anymore and it was the same. Right now, however, it's at 1.5mbps :( -

I read Tiscali's fair usage policy a while ago, but it didn't mention any specific limits. Is there any way to monitor it to see when you're coming close to getting capped or is it just blind flying? -

I was only creating more threads because I wasn't finished talking/asking for help and my threads kept getting closed before I could respond, but thanks for the help regardless. I completely understand why you need to avoid mentioning of those programs and I wasn't really asking for help with that one, I merely mentioned it in case it might help to identify the problem. Also, I take it you did read the other thread that I posted (which is now gone)? I'd like to further discuss that one if you don't mind, I just want to check you read it before I PM you to save me typing it up again. -
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but seriously, what did I do wrong in the last thread? As far as I can see I broke no rules, I simply wanted the answer clarified as I didn't fully understand how that would cause my problem.

Ah, I misunderstood that post, sorry. That's what Tiscali told me when I contacted them but wouldn't them capping my badwidth due to this fair usage policy just slow my connection down all round, rather than simply stopping me from connecting to certain programs? To clarify, I have checked my connection speeds both when I can connect and when I can't and there is no difference and I also have no trouble viewing web pages or have trouble downloading files by other means (e.g. downloading direct from a file hosting site as opposed to something like Sky Player). And that was going to be my next question about ISP's, mat, thanks. I was thinking of going with BT broadband so it's good to know there's hope...

In response to my previous post... Disregarding utorrent, Sky Player uses P2P technology and so does World of Warcraft for it's patching process (but not actually playing) so does that mean no one will give me any help regarding them?

Hi, Apologies for the wall of text that's about to come your way from a brand new member, but I am STUCK! :) I've been having some problems connecting to several programs for a long time now and none of the solutions I've been able to google up have been any help. The programs I am having trouble with are the online game, World of Warcraft, Sky TV's Sky Player and utorrent. This problem seems to only be occurring during "peak" times but it is not always happening. Sometimes I can connect fine, right through peak times without any problems, then sometimes I cannot connect. Specifically, with Warcraft, I type in my login details and it gets past the authentication server, but then get's stuck when it tries to connect to the actual gaming server. With Sky Player, I can log in and stream videos, but it will not let me download anything and with utorrent, it stops all my downloads. For an example of the timing of this, I was able to play the game without problems all weekend, all day yesterday and today until 5pm when it stopped letting me connect and according to previous pattern, will not let me connect again until after midnight. I did some searching and it seems that the vast majority of players (including myself) who have this problem are with the ISP Tiscali or one of its foreign branches. After discovering this, I have contacted Tiscali customer support and they were unable to help or offer any possible cause for the problem and after doing some tests, claimed that there is no problem at their end. I have also posted many threads on the Blizzard (game manufac.) support page and they have came up with nothing. Frankly, I think it must be a Tiscali related problem because of the fact that almost all the other people with the problem are with Tiscali, and surely there's nothing else that could cause time specifc connection blockages with specific programs? There's obviously something that changed with my connection today at 5pm, but I just can't figure out what it is. It's very perplexing... Thanks very much to anyone who read all that and I hope someone can help!
