  1. If you download and run hijackthis and post the results it may show some of the problems
  2. Its all so part of Photoshop if you want to remove it type "C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe" -remove at the cmd prompt. If you Google it there is a lot of problems having it running
  3. If you partition the drive it means 1 if windows crashes you can have your data safe on the other partition. 2 You can create an image with something like Acronis of windows on the second partition so if it crashes you can get it back in 20 mins or less 3 It can save a lot of defragmenting On your figures the defragmentation isnt doing a very good job I would expect it to be less than 10% when done more like 3% as this may need boot time defraging
  4. Withe very little info to go on I would guess you need to give the printer an IP or set it up to receive dhcp. I dont know what the default is for that printer
  5. If you run the chkdsk option above and it cant gain full control it should ask if you want it to do it on startup as it can then test it. Another option is fit it into a pc and boot from xp cd goto repair consul and enter the chkdsk into there as the disk wont be locked. There is a lot of free ware that may test the drive for you
  6. The ip range seems ok if you have connected to another network did you enter a key. I would suspect it may be sending the wrong key to sky its picking up dhcp ok and getting a ip dns etc so its seeing the network fine. Normally on the sky box is the wep key preset by sky you dont say what O/S etc but there should be an option to enter a code depending on how its setup normally under wireless network connections. The problem often is who is controlling the card some software will turn off windows and take over and you sometime have to get windows to get control back. Normally it windows wireless zero confige inthe services panel which may be stopped
  7. It could be you are swamping the laptop and its having to resend packets what speed does it connect at? The laptop would be better off with cable if you could. You dont give a lot of info like what O/S what router etc. The best way to do it is to set the laptop up with a static ip if you goto start/run type cmd press return and then type ipconfig /all when your connected you will get an ip address say you get 10.0.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.0.0.1 Put this in as a static ip on the laptop(if you roam wit hit you may have to revert it back when connecting to other networks) On the xbox set the ip to one above the laptop so you add one to the last number in the above case the xbox would be 10.0.0.3 give it the same subnet and set the gateway to the ip of the laptop. It should all work. You ip may be in the range 192 and on some routers there is a setting that stops 2 wireless station talking together
  8. or you can type C:\SQL2KSP4\MSDE\setup /upgradesp
  9. There is probably water in the HD from the pictures(joke). try a cmd prompt and then run chkdsk f: /r /f If it cant lock the disk It may ask if you want to check on startup. Do not open the drive with explorer or anything as it will lock it so it can do its job This may take some time what does diskmanager say about it?
  10. Have you tried setting it in your browser? if IE tools/ internet options/conections/lansetting and set to automaticly select settings
  11. Any powerline adapter should work with no problem but they must all be the same type to work some like the one you posted only do low speed other like Max Value 200Mbps Home Plug, Double Unit Pack: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo work at 200 meg Bt recomend sell these Claim A Free Netgear Powerline Adapter - BT Shop
  12. Yes the install disk is the boot disk. Boot from it and select repair and recover consul. Then enter all the commands one after another and report back
  13. Apart from anything else the main problem is 224MB of RAM that is why its so slow and your get the error of low virtual memory as its swoping out to disk all the time. You need ideally 2 gig of ram. I have an old pc with the same specs and has 1 gig of ram is nippy. There may be other issues like what runs at startup but more ram is you first thing to get and its not dear now
  14. I have used it for years and no problems you can normally get the older version FREE on their site or on computer mags cd's
  15. The hard drive is corrupt so Linux carnt mount it. It probably wont be seen if you connect it to another pc. You need a xp boot disk. Boot from the disk and goto command prompt then type fixboot c: then fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0 then chkdsk c: / p You may have to reboot back into the dos window off the cd between commands. When you have run them all try booting as normal if that fail boot from the lunux cd and see if that works
  16. What you need is a vector image as this will resize. A bitmap is made up of dots so if you enlarge it its shows the dots a vector image is a command to draw a line so this is scalable. this site explains about the image types About Bitmap Images - Two Types of Graphics - Vector and Bitmap and you can convert it on the web via http://vectormagic.com/home if you dont have any software to do it
  17. That may make some sense if its not got a port it cant print so its trying to spool until it gets one. First goto control panel then admin tools then services and look for plug and pray(not play) it should be set to started and automatic. if its not started click start. I assume its a usb printer if you get the plug and play working try reinstalling the printer
  18. Make and model of the dongle? It could be it needs .net to run which you can get from .NET Framework: Download check instruction and see if its required but normally it says do you want to install it. Have you tried another usb port?
  19. Your could try this page System Restore disabled by Group Policy (how do I turn it on?)? - Yahoo! Answers which may get your system restore back
  20. Take a look at When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error message as it may help as it says check the cables and any dma settings for the disk if there is any in the bios turn them off. You can boot from your Dell disk and run the disk checks but not a repair as it will be the wrong version
  21. On the printer if you choose properties on one of those tabs is a spooler option it says something like spool printing or print directly try turning on spooling in there it may be under ports menu (its not the same for every printer). Are you printing as admin/ Another problem is you try to print and it trys to spool but the spool directory needs admin rights
  22. Did you get SP2 or SP3? You need SP3. The try installing the software for the dongle DO NOT INSERT IT until it tells you to or reboot after installation and insert it. If you insert it before you install the software windows will load its own drivers which may not work
  23. Put the xp recovery disk in turn on the pc and on the first screen it should give you an option to select boot device press that key quick choose the cd drive. Or press F2 to get to setup and set the pc to boot from cd/dvd first then hd0 It should boot to the recovery disk. I the cd drives lights and it still says no boot device the cd isnt bootable or damaged.
  24. Most Dells give you an option on boot up to pick boot device normally F11 watch on boot up for the option
  25. They cant all be lnk files there must be some exe files. The lnk files should also work if they link to the exe. The normal way this happens is dragging the file by mistake and it then creates a link. Do you mean all your menu files are lnk? If you want to do system restore open c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe or open a cmd prompt ie start/run cmd then type c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
