  1. It was vista home basic when brought and came with the 512mb stick. A quick look online says that 512mb is the minimum for home basic. I added the 1st 2gb stick to speed it up. It was really slow as you can proberly imagine. I then added the 2nd 2gb stick to make it a little more faster and able to support 64-bit if I decide to install it. I would try a crucial scan but my PC doesnt stay on long enough.
  2. I understand what you mean, but surely the 512mb stick would work on its own? It came with the PC.
  3. No but im going to call out tech guys.
  4. Iv tried each stick of ram in each slot but nothing. Iv also tyied reseting the battery and jumpers but that didnt work. Thank you.
  5. Hey, Thanks for the help. Iv tried all 3 of my ram sticks (512mb came with the pc, I brought a 2gb stick like 1 year ago (no problems) and I also have this new 2GB) on their own, in each slot. The 512 and the first 2gb gave me the same beeps but the new 2gb worked for few hours then the screen went and it doesn't work again. Iv also tried taking out everything that isnt essential (mouse, keyboard and PCI network adapter. No difference.
  6. (sorry, Im not sure were to post this) Hey, My PC doesnt want to start up. It makes loud beeps wen I turn it on. As fa as im aware, it is a hardware problem. I recently installed 2GB of extra ram then took it out due because my sound started to play up. After few days I put it back in again and I had no problems since. This morning when I woke up my PC wouldn't turn on, it just made loud beeps. I opened up my PC and made sure everything was plugged in properly then removed my new stick of ram and inserted the old one. I then turned it on again and it had no problems again..... for 30 minutes anyway. The whole screen went black and the light on my mouse turned off completely, but the PC sat there like everything was all right. So I forced a restart and my PC began beeping again. This is where im up too now. Any ideas are welcome Thank you, James.
  7. Hey, Problem 1.) I cant use Windows Hotmail (website), BBC Iplayer or facebook properly. When I go into my inbox and see messages, when I click on the email it doesnt open. The mouse changes from the pointer to the hand, indicating a link, but when I click it,l it does nothing. If I double click the email address and/or email title just highlights. Im currently using a mobile hotmail site to access my emails. Facebook also is playing up. I dont use facebook persoanlly, but my mum does in the morning to play some games on there she cant play on her laptop (due to mouse pad thing). She cant access friends list and more. With Iplayer, I cant see the video or the download button. Iv recently installed 'Ad muncher' to remove ads from sites. The problem started around the time of installing this. Iv deactivated it and even uninstalled it and yet the problem continues. Problem 2.) When I open a new tab (Google chrome & IE) they usually take a while to load (just sits there for about 30 seconds to 1 min without loading). If im opening a link from a website then it loads straight away, but if I open a new tab and load a bookmark or type in the web address (BBC football as an example) its takes its time. Iv had this problem for months and just accepted it. Any ideas? Iv reinstalled the latest java and flash player, emptied my cache & deleted history, virus scanned with Avast! and even done a cleanup and defrag. Im using Windows 7 (tab problem also appeared on vista previously) and Google chrome is my main browser, although the problems exist in IE, FF and their up to date. Iv done all system updates. Any reason for it? Thanks, James.
  8. I cant remember, I remember I had to go to there site and search something like oem recovery fix.... although I cant find a search function on there site now. I think it was their site anyway. I remember because I kept thinking he said 'OEM recovery six' then gathered he meant fix lol. oh really?
  9. Mine is an E Syetems (PC) and my mums is an advent (Laptop).
  10. Sorry, I am being open, just am really crap at explaining. Right, I have an OEM recovery disc which i had to download from a website and install onto a disc, that was ages ago after phoning up the tech guy (im sure you've heared of them). like 1 year after (dont really know howlong but that isnt important) my PC had a bootmrg problem (something was missing) so again, we got on the phone to the tech guys who said we should use my mums recovery disc after trying the OEM recovery disc and failing. I never knew why it didn't work. Im sure the disc still works. Thats the main story. I would phone the tech guys, but we don't have a subscription with them anymore (couldn't afford to keep it going). Does this clear it up abit? Sorry if it was a bit 'iffy giffy' before lol.
  11. My machine had vista on it already, but I had a bootmrg problem which could only be sorted by reinstalling vista. If I had a problem installing it, wouldnt really have mattered. I followed the tech guys advice doing it. I think there part of PC world. Anyways, iv just remembered I have an old vista recovery disc which I made - 'OEM recovery fix vista'. I'll prob use that. Why, whats wrong?
  12. Well it came with my mums laptop but iv already used it for this machine. It worked fine. My PC is E machine but the PC now things its an advent. I didn't have any problems doing it so I assume it'll be the same.
  13. Ok, thanks. I am excited, but scared at the same time. I really dont want to break it.... and please dont call it a toy, no toy costs £50 lol. But yeah, cant wait. I'll prob just reinstall Vista using a recovery disc I have. just need to back up a few important things such as wireless network dongle driver (lost disc). I'll do that now. Thanks :(
  14. To be honest, i'll prob look tomorrow. Am I able to install my new processor which arrived today? it wont get damaged or anything, will it by the virus?
  15. not a clue lol. There both in the attic, in my PC box I think. I'll have to spend a day finding the sodding thing.
