  1. Many thanks. As far as cause is concerned I have got various problems with computer nowadays including it spontaneously shutting down. Its used a lot and is now 4 1/2 years old and I'm thinking it is really time to look at a replacement.
  2. Often my mouse icon ‘locks’ so I cannot perform any functions including shutting the computer down. The only way I know to rectify the problem is switch the computer off either at the mains or tower and switch back on again but this is not ideal. Is there a safe, correct way of shutting the computer down without using the mouse icon to click on anything on screen?
  3. Sorted! Many thanks
  4. I have lost the recycle bin on my desktop. Looked in all applications. Where can I find it to reinstall on desktop?
  5. I have just downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials and I have feeling all will be well now. Fingers crossed.
  6. Thats great, Nortons gone. Your a star.
  7. Cannot get rid of Norton! I have clicked to uninstall it on 'Uninstall or change a program' page and a box comes up seeking permission to continue. I click to continue and nothing happens.
  8. Everythink OK at the moment but will have to see what happens when updates are intalled on the computer.
  9. Useful to know that me thinks. Just restored computer to settings on 05 May (earliest point on list that came up). Will now get rid of Norton as that does not seem to be working correctly and will replace with Microsoft Essentials that I am told is good?
  10. The computer states there is no problem with internet connection but no pages are showing. Not sure about Firewall but I have Norton installed. That said I have just clicked on the Norton icon and nothing is opening?
  11. Amongst the many updates I receive automatically on my computer I get security updates for Microsoft Windows and they are now preventing me accessing the internet. The only way I can access the net is to keep deleting the new updates and restarting the computer. Any help please? Not sure if it’s relevant but I use Internet Explorer 8 (that I would like to stick with).
  12. Since yesterday I have been unable to obtain either google search engine or ebay. Not experiencing any problem accessing other sites. Is anyone else having the same problem? Cannot make sense of it. Surely if it was an issue with my connection it would affect all web sites?????????
  13. Hi Wolfey. The lead was plugged in the wrong hole! After performing a system recovery I have a PC that now runs perfectly. I have got rid of all junk, restored original settings and installed only the software I need – would recommend to any novice who, like me, inadvertently messes up their PC.
  14. Have soughted it by doing system recovery. The only issue I am now trying to resolve is getting sound. Sound is on but no sound is comng out of the speakers? I just need to click on somethiung but do not know what? Any ideas?
