JohnRoss replied to JohnRoss's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok and thanks. I found the required info here http://www.lg.com/uk/it-products/monitors/LG-lcd-monitor-W2254TQ.jsp. Seems the model is discontinued but I was still able to download the user manual for the VDU. Will now pass it on to the owner.......Cheers.............JR -
LG W54 Monitor On-line operating instructions?
JohnRoss replied to JohnRoss's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
From the U.K. In fact this was obtained in the U.K. and brought over here to France. I am posting this question for a friend who has probs with it. Comet Northampton I think............JR -
Hope this is the right place for this question. If someone dowloads something from a website and burns it to DVD or CD can it be traced back to that computer used to create it? What checks can be done to ensure a DVD or CD has no computer identity recorded on it? The question is asked because it is not always possible to easily determine if copyright rules apply to some stuff freely available on the web. Youtube and some free movies, TV programmes etc on-line for example...............................JR

Thanks for the reply. In fact I have found the fault was due to the Dell Support Centre sofware and I have deleted it and downloaded a more recent version from the Dell website and all is well now. Thanks again and I will keep your info in mind for the next problem when it comes!............JR PS The Dell sofware just seems to link to various sections of their website but I did notice that there were several updates available for this machine, Dell Ispiron 531, and I don't know if it would be worth downloading them as all is working ok just now.

Been getting this message after switch-on, Vista system Home premium French version, or a reboot each day. Script../../../../ sscommon/common/inc/ss_container.js Failed to load With the heading Message de la page Web This started after I had to force the computer off by holding in the power button as I was in a hurry to go out and AVG had decided it would not let the box shut down for some reason. The only other obvious result of this improper shut down was the loss of saved on the PC emails. The machine in all other respects is working ok but I did try changing my anti-virus software, following a suggestion on another thread, to Microsoft Security Essentials which found a Trojan Win32/Skintrim.C which was deleted. So anyone know the significance of this message please?....................................JR PS Machine seems a lot faster since getting rid of AVG

Vista and Epson collour 680

Back to normal but why? Hi and again it has got weird! Switched on this morning and all now working! Makes no sense as I tried switching it all off and back on several times yesterday and that did not fix it. Maybe Windows has done another update and put right something they did on the last update if so not the first time of late as have other problems of Windows doing weird things for a day or two and then correcting itself or so it would seem!............................JR -

Thanks Hi and thanks for the reply. I guess you are only confirming what I had already suspected. It used to work on this machine, the Dell, but recently has been playing up and since the last Windows update not at all. The link you kindly gave shows nothing for drivers compatable with Vista and from what I have seen on the net others have had similar problems. I do have a Dell printer for this machine but I don't like using it too much as the ink is so expensive compared with the Epson. I guess I will have to use it on my old machine for printing downloads and that is a pain as it is getting very old and creaky running as it does Windows Millenium! There are a lot of French forums, I am located in France, giving similar reports of people buying a second hand 680s and finding it does not work with Vista. Ok c'est la vie and thanks again........................JR -

Additional data Forgot to say that the printer and USB cable works ok on another computer running Millenium.......JR -
Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 531 running Vista Home Premium and I am trying to print using an Epson Stylus Colour 680. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. When it does not I often get the message not connected. Even when it gives the ready message it often does not print and says error. Sometimes a reeboot of the computer fixes the problem and other times not. Any suggestions folks?........................JR

Problem gorn nothing I did guv! Well even weirder the problem I reported has just disappeared today. The only Windows update today has been this one and only on one of the two machines affected which I would not have thought could be responsible but what do I know. Maybe AOL has done an update, don't know how you could tell! Still think it is something to do with the AOL box. Both computers working normally again..................................................JR Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.63.422.0) Date d'installation : 28/07/2009 09:27 État de l'installation : Réussite (Successful) Type de mise à jour (Update) : Important Install this update to revise the definition files used to detect spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Strange it is a French one and a typical French name in part at that and the IP address locates me in France! A view held by many it would seem but I would not know as have only ever used AOL. I had hoped that the fault was not related to a particular location, i.e. France, but was related to the software, American, or the AOL box or I.E.8. Anyway thank you for your time and your considered response. I had hoped some of your other forum members might have responded with nuggets of knowledge but sadly not. I trust I would be as welcome again should I have some other problem that you would feel qualified and uninhibited to comment on............................................JR

AOL neuf SFR I think your information is a little out of date AOL/Neuf now have been taken under SFR's wing in France. I had hoped that someone on your site would have been able to comment on the fact that words in the listings as shown in my example have the ASCII code 20 Hex (32 Dec) preceded by % instead of a space. This was what I wanted to kow and what to do about it of course. It must be something to do with my AOL box I would have thought and it has been suggested that a DNS change might help but I know little about DNS or how to change it. Trying to communicate in a foreign language is not that easy for matters technical such as this and their reputation for giving help is pants!.............................................JR PS I am British by the way in case you thought otherwise
-
Afraid not helpful Tried to ask question of AOL UK but cannot communicate with them as they don't recognise me as a subsciber as I am in France. Could not find anything helpful in their list of technical queries. AOL.fr has cancelled its English help line and from past experience they were not much help anyway. My French is not that good so just adds to the problem. I was hoping someone on your forum would recognise the problem from the examples I have given. Thanks for tryiing to be helpful anyaway..............JR
