Thanks Ken and Neil, I think I probably thought that but it is nice to have it confirmed by people who know; so just for completeness would you recommend that I stop using the registry part of CCleaner and not worry about the registry any more?
-
Hi, I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to ask this question. I use te free version of CCcleaner and it tells me I have no problems with my registry. However if you run these free scans on the internet then every one tells me I have literally hundreds of problems and I need to buy their software to eliminate them. Obviously I think they are exagerating and just wish to sell their products but my question is, could there actually be some problems I am not aware of and can anyone reccomend a good free to use registry cleaner if you consider one is necessary anyway? Thanks for any advice and I hope you all have a great Christmas and an even better new year.

[Solved] Processor speed
JayCee6828 replied to JayCee6828's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks, found it now but to get the processor to run at 2.6 I had to also disable an item under throttle processor as well. Sorry to be a pain but I never thought of looking under CPU settings - although obvious I guess when you know! Thanks for the help -
[Solved] Processor speed
JayCee6828 replied to JayCee6828's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, thanks for that. I thought that was what it was but I can't find a setting for AMD cool and quiet anywhere in the BIOS settings; do you know which setting it is in? -
Hi I have an AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-core processor 2.60 GHz but according to PC Wizard it is running all the time at 1.3 GHz ie half speed. I think this may be a bios setting but am not sure, can you tell me where I can set the BIOS to make it run at 2.6 GHx all the time. Thanks

Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply. I can't disable it in the chipset settings it only gives choices of auto or various amounts of memory, not including 0 I have 4Gb of memory in the computer
-
Thanks for the reply. I am not sure now how I allocated it, I have a vague memory that the installation program asked me to let it allocate some and I accepted that but I could be wrong. I have looked at the chipset settings and the share memory item is set to auto - should I change this, it gives a choice of various values? I am asking this as an answer on the X-Plane 10 forum told me that using extra vram than that on your graphics card (512Mb) will slow the program down.
-
I have a Radeon HD3600 graphics card and recently installed X-Plane 10. At the same time I allocated some VRAM from my system memory but now want to take that back as it is slowing down the game. Can you tell me how I can find out how much memory is allocated to VRAM and then how to de allocate it.

Microsoft Word and ODT files
JayCee6828 replied to JayCee6828's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks for that Ken - unfortunately the download link on that site appears to be broken but I found the application by googling it and have sent it to a friend who has Office to try out -
Does Microsoft word read ODT files produced in LibreOffice. I have produced some documents in LibreOffice, chess games as it happens, and the main text is in frames with 3 columns. If I save it as a .DOC file then read it with LibreOffice the columns have gone so it does not look right. As I don't have Microsoft Office I can't test it myself but I wondered if Microsoft Office would read the ODT fles correctly and have columns in the page. I did try to attach the .ODT file but can't seem to do do.

It was a setting in the control panel under power options - no idea how that got turned on though. I will stop worrying and assume the PSU temperature is false; as the CPU temperatures are within tolerances and it seems to stay on as long as I want it to now I think we can consider this one solved - thanks again Nev.

Hi Nev, Thanks for the reply - I have moved this to the PSU forum under "Is the PSU Failing" but have had no replies there. My PSU was 600W and I have an ATI readeon 3600 video card; but as I sid in the other forum I have replaved it with a G& 780W PSU but the heating still remains. I think the CPU is fine as after researching that it is OK up to 65C and at the moment it is beteween 45 and 55C even inder load. When I put it under 100% load on all 4 cores it went up to 62.5C. But what puzzles me is immediately after boot up my PSU is showing at 85C and when put at 100% on all 4 cores I have seen the PSU temperature as high as 126C. I am wondering if this is a genuine reading on the PSU as it certainly doesn't feel that hot to the touch but I tried CoreTemp and that gave the same readings as PC Wizard. I have rather redfaced solved the shutting down as somehow the setting to switch the display off after 20 minutes was on and yet that is a setting I have never used as I never shut my display down; although after the machine had shut down like that it had to be rebooted as it wouldn't wake up any other way and sometmes I was told the machine hadn't shut down correctly when rebooting. Maybe I am worrying about this too much, maybe you can advise me on that! Should I continue on this thread or should we move to the PSU forum? As ever I am truly grateful for any advice you can give me.

Another update - oh dear it has just shut itself down again; I don't know if there are any messages as it always seems to happen when I am out of the room - can someone please adise what I should try next, the mainboard, processor and hard drive temperatures are all reasonable.
-
Update - I got so woried about this PSU and didn't want to wreck my motherboard so I went to Maplins and found a G7 Extreme Power 870Watt PSU on offer for £39.99 so I bought it and fitted it. Guess what the temperature is still reported as 89 to 90C after start up and I monitored the temperature using PC Wizard 2010 whilst loading Flight Sim X, the temperature went to 125C and then back to 90C when I quit Flight Sim. At least the machine didn't shut down so maybe those sorts of temperatures are OK when the machine is under high load - comments anyone??

Sorry everybody - I have now moved this question to the correct forum.
