  1. Hi all, Im wanting to connect my home built pc to my newly puchased Plasma tv pref through the best possible connection. I would like to use the tv as an external monitor for streaming media etc and gaining the best quality picture i can. The computer has a Gigabyte H55M S2H motherboard with a core i3 530 cpu, i am running onboard graphics and there is no external graphics card.It has VGA,DVI & HDMI The tv is a Panasonic Viera TX P42S20B & has 3 HDMI inputs & 2 Scarts but no VGA or DVI I currently use a 23" monitor for the normal usage and would continue to do so. How do i go about connecting it up correctly & what cables/settings do i need. Sorry if posted in the wrong section. Thanks in advance
  2. Hi all, i have here at the min a dell sx260 usff pc that had a faulty hard drive, the hard drive has now been replaced with a new one which solved the original issue BUT the machine has NO CD ROM DRIVE so how do i re-install windows xp on it?? Ive tried a friends external usb cd drive but the bios doesnt offer the option to boot from usb device. Unfortunatly the machine doesnt take normal laptop drives and ive looked on ebay but cd drives start at about 30 for this model. How do i sort it?? Thanks in advance
  3. would that be possible even tho ive erased and formatted the hard drive & also tried another hard drive
  4. Hi all , ive bought a job lot of pc's with the intention of cleaning up and re-selling although the 2nd pc ive come to has got me stumped. The hard drive had been formatted and ive attempted to instal windows xp with the supplied disc (genuine & hologrammed xp home disc with no visible damage) it allows me to start the install and enter pc name etc but then reboots after setting the network settings (approx 28 minutes til completion) and then restarts instal from 39 minutes to go....it then asks for the pc name etc AGAIN and then proceeds to reboot at the same point and re-start the installation again from 39 minutes. Ive tried a good known power supply, a different hard drive, a different cd rom drive and i know the disc is fine as it installed on another pc before starting this one. Any ideas would be appreciated. The pc is a p4 1.7ghz packard bell with windows xo home coa on case so im quite confident its compatible with xp
  5. Hi nev, yes did try a usb stick in the slot and external speakers in the audio ports but no joy so i think ill just accept the front panel just will not work and maybe see how annoying it becomes not having usable front usb, to be fair its likely to become a spare machine to be used mainly as a media centre so shouldnt be that important and when/if the mb gives up at least it was a freebie so its no big loss! Thanks
  6. Superb, front panel wiring sorted, machine fires up spot on now.....except coming up with a 918 front usb not connected & 917 front audio not connected. The front usb's and front audio are connected & ive also tried the motherboard in a known perfect working order case so therefore it must be a motherboard fault?? Not that im bothered whether the front usb & audio works but before the pc will boot i have to press f1 to continue, is there anyway i can disable this so it just boots up without pressing f1, ive browsed through bios but cant see anything i think would help so left it well alone. Any ideas?
  7. Hi, my friend has given me what he says is a working motherboard and processor out of a HP DC7600 convertible pc which i intend to instal in a standard ATX case, my problem is the front panel wiring on the case i have is seperate wires with pwrsw hdd led etc which im fine with but the motherboard seems to be a non standard type plug for the front panel wiring and theres no markings on it as to where to plug in. Anyone have any ideas as to where to plug in the standard wires if it can even be done?? The original case was one of those small form factor ones and has long since been disposed of so no way to get a clue off that, ive tried doing a google search for a wiring diagram but with no joy Thanks
  8. Just tried that too nev but still getting nowhere! If i right click on my computer and go into manage then device manager it only shows audio codecs & legacy audio drivers no actual sound device under sounds, video & game controllers so it must have the right drivers just doesnt know a device is there for some reason??
  9. Hi Kelly, Tried that and it shows as running, any other suggestions anyone??
  10. Hi Nev, its not on service pack 3 and ive already tried uninstal/ re-install a couple of times but still no joy. Im wondering whether it may be best to go out and buy a pci sound card to cure the problem??
  11. Hi Nev, thanks for your reply, yes we do have the Foxconn motherboard installation disc and installed everything on it, it said all was installed ok and we have tried to re-install from the disc but no joy. I downloaded the drivers from the link you gave and installed them, still no joy. When i look under control panel/ sounds & audio devices it still shows "NO AUDIO DEVICE" and yet in the add/remove programs it lists Realtek AC'97 AUDIO as being installed??? Is there maybe a possibilty that im trying to install the wrong drivers as browsing through the forum there appears to be more than one type of AC'97 AUDIO or could there maybe be something blatant somewhere else that were missing??
  12. Hi all, I currently have my friends computer at my house for me to "look at" due to a recent problem she has had with viruses etc. Between us we have completely Re-installed Windows Xp Home with the original disc and installed the sounds drivers etc from the motherboard disc but the pc has since had no sound whatsoever. Ive searched around the forum and it appears to be a very common problem when re-installing xp. The computer is a HIGH GRADE mmd05ss10 or at least thats the only label i can find, the motherboard is a FOXCONN 6514MR-ES, there is no sound card installed so i can only assume its built in on the motherboard?? Before all her problems with viruses etc there was perfect working sound, nothing new has been installed or uninstalled, the pc speakers we are trying it with work fine with my own pc ruling out the possibility of faulty speakers. In control panel it shows "no audio device" Any help would be appreciated Thanks
  13. Thanks for taking the time to compile that list for me snow, i have to admit tho (as sad as it might make me sound) i prefer the look of the side windowed coolermaster case that tooltech suggested, that would also trim £25 off the total cost to bring it down to the £300 nicely. Is the intel processor much better than the amd equivalent as the amd ones appear to be cheaper?? Oh and the general idea is to buy/build the best i possibly can within (hopefully) my budget although i may yet try and find a few more spare pennies if it will make a considerable difference
  14. Hi snow, I already have 17" Hyundai L72D Monitor, Liteon Dvd Rw drive, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 1TB HD, Corsair QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX G 4 x 1GB Ram & a cheapy wireless keyboard & optical mouse. I also have a GEFORCE 8400GS graphics card i was given, no idea of compatabilty of it tho Does that help any??
  15. Just increased my budget to £300 ish now due to the sale of my old pc
