Hi Nev, All the other connections are Wireless. There is another Desktop upstairs and that is Wireless too. I did a partial reload of the sysem so that it kept some of my folders in a separate area. It's still rubbish.

Tootech suggestion met with a greyed out component. Onto the next stage now. I completely reinstalled Windows today too and got rid of all programs that weren't default and went back to scratch. Netspeed now up to 19kbs.....great!

Thanks again Tootech, but it was indeed greyed out. I'll give Chiaz's suggestion a go. I've completely reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium today and its not changed anything one iota. Netspeed is reported as 19kbs...if I'm lucky!

RandyL The statements aren't at all contradictory. Just over a week ago I could stream from BBC Iplayer or ITV Player with no issue. If I downloaded a file or refreshed a webpage it was instantaneous. Suddenly, this is no longer the case. The Speedtest tells me I am shipping at 18 kbs and the average is 240kbs. So I installed and ran Eusing Registry Cleaner and the FinitySoft Memory Manager to track issues. I have none. As of today, I have deinstalled both those products and my PC is no better. To refresh a page can take anything form two seconds to two minutes. I have Disk Cleaned, Defragmented, run PCTools scan against it. No issue is detected. I have tried all sorts of things, I have even restored to a week old version. No change. I could keep trying things, but I can't believe there isn't someone out there who has had similar? Regards

Hi Tootech. I appreciate the comments about Eusing and Finity Soft, but I only installed them AFTER the problems occured, so I can be fairly sure it isn't that that has been the issue. Any other suggestions please? I work from home and this performance is just killing me. Cheers

I should add that this desktop is directly connected to the router (Netgear DG834G) and there are three other laptops accessing this router. None of them have the issue I have, so I'm assuming it's my desktop that's hit........or is it??? (as an example, my partner can stream video from ITV Player without it visibly buffering. If I try that, it plays for 6 seconds then buffers for 30 seconds)

I have a Packard Bell Intel Dual Core Desktop with 2gb RAM. In the last week my throughput has died. Today I ran a text throughput test which showed my throughput at 18kbs when a normal DSL connection would be at 220kbs+. I run Eusing Registry cleaner every day, there are few issues. I also run FinitySoft Memory Manager and there is plenty of RAM available. I'm running Defender and AVG security systems, neither of which are detecting any issues whatsoever. One week ago, I could download from external sources at 150k+, now I'm treading water. Any ideas please from this Braintrust?? Regards
