  1. Hi, Deleted big (very big) folder into recycle bin which i then emptied. Running a virus scan, it always scans C:\$Recycle.Bin which still has that folder i supposedly deleted. Furthermore, going to C:\$Recycle.Bin it says folder empty, but right clicking and going to properties gives 1.5GB of stuff. This really slows virus scan down so how do i get rid of these unwanted files? Cheers
  2. hi when performing a clean installation is it best to log into the OS (ie XP) already on the computer and start from there? or boot up with the disc in the drive and install from there? cheers
  3. Hi guys? I am looking at two laptops for my bro: They will be primarily used for word-processing and web-browsing with some gaming e.g. age of mythology (an oldie but a goodie) and unreal tournament 2004. The ACER one had DDR3 memory whilst the HP laptop is cheaper with a discount code (£380). Acer Aspire 5732Z Value Laptop, Intel Pentium Dual Core T4300 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, WLAN N, 15.6" WXGA, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64BIT £399.99 Acer Aspire 5732Z Value Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer OR HP G61-110sa 15.6 Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor T4300 (2.1Ghz, 800Mhz, 1MB Cache) Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 4GB Memory 320GB Hard drive Up to 4.5 hours battery life Webcam with Integrated Microphone Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader HDMI & VGA ports for external displays £399.00 -> £379.00 Currys - Shop for Power and Performance Laptops - HP G61-110sa 15.6" widescreen laptop Would like to know your thoughts guys and is DDR3 worth that little bit more? Thanks :)
  4. Yep, cheers. I have an inkling that overpricing will be the case. They aren't that many I5s and I7s about at the moment though, HP Elite and Dell are the ones that spring to mind but nobody except Ebuyer has stock! Anyway I digress :) Crucial do seem to offer the best deal btw. Cheers again
  5. Hi, another question RE memory upgrade :) currently have four slots in motherboard with two 256 MB DDR RAM question is can you add two 1GB to give ~2.5GB or will computer run at speed of lowest i.e. at 2 x 256MB? (And are Crucial the best bet for new memory?)
  6. Is crucial no good? They seem to offer good price with warranty. I am looking to get a new PC and keep this Pentium 4 as a secondary one with reasonable not exceptional performance so don't really want to splash the cash on it. It runs acceptably now so I am just hoping an extra 2GB of RAM will perk it up costing about £50. Your thoughts? And RE that new PC i was looking at the I7s but have heard of new USB and hardrive technologies so do you think i should wait a while for the new batch of PCs come through?Looking to spend 1K max.
  7. Hi, On our home computer we have: Maximum Memory Capacity: 4096MB Currently Installed Memory: 512MB Available Memory Slots: 2 Total Memory Slots: 4 Dual Channel Support: Yes CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel CPU Family: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz Model 2, Stepping 9 CPU Speed: 2800 MHz Will buying 2gb RAM from Crucial make our computer appreciably faster and allow installation of windows 7 32 bit? This is what the Crucial scanner recommended: 1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module CT12864Z335 Module Size: 1GB Package: 184-pin DIMM Feature: DDR PC2700 Specs: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 • PS. what would i have to do to install 64 bit windows 7 (because we have XP 32bit at the moment i think) and what difference is there between 32 and 64 bit i.e. is there an appreciable difference (i have both at the moment)? Thanks
  8. Thanks, new monitor it is :)
  9. Hi, monitor is Di-fusion EZX15F.
  10. Hi, My flat screen monitor display is realll dim, you have to turn the lights off to just about see the display. I have managed to navigate the monitor settings to try and reset it but no luck. Tried it on several computers but same thing happens. Any ideas? Thanks
  11. (after a long time...) I think ~£1000 is maximum. Also is it worth getting an i7 pc or i5 pc because from what i gather these cpus are the ones to have although the i7 is pretty expensive. On Ebuyer i was looking at the HP Pavillion Elites 053 and 083 with these cores respectively, do they look any good? Thank You
  12. Hi snow, thanks for quick reply. my family computer has a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 and 128Mb graphics so this would be the minimum specs for the one i would buy. my uni work involves heavy data analysis and i also play quite a few pc games so proccessing power (maybe dual core or somethinglike that) and graphics are important. i also want to install windows 7 OS and have a dvd burning drive and quite a few usb ports. what kind of specification would be suitable with this mind (bearing in mind i am a student on a budget!) and would i be better off buying from say PC World or getting one built, i prob don't have expertise to build my own or the time for that matter. Also would it be cheaper for the above specification in a laptop or a desktop? thanks for your help sxc656
  13. Hi guys. I thought I would try upgrading our old computer but I don't know whether it will be possible to upgrade or just buy a new laptop/computer. it is like 10 years old so I it is probably un-upgradable but I have attached a txt file with the hardware specifications so this can be double-checked. Thanks :) S-CSOBAKKF0U6ZB.txt
