Thanks for taking the time nev.... that looks just like what i need as the card never came with the 8 pin pci cable. i do have a 750 watt PSU that has been doing nothing for a while. if i was to use that where would i buy the 8 pin cable required for the card? ive got the 6 pin cable that came with my ati hd 4870....thats sadly died lol. thanks again for your help

thankyou for the reply. i think i will upgrade the CPU in the near future then. the board is a asrock g31m-gs and from the manual it can be overclocked and supports the following cpu's - LGA 775 for Intel ® Core2 Extreme / Core2 Quad / Core 2 Duo / Pentium ® Dual Core / Celeron® Dual Core / Celeron®, supporting Penryn Quad Core Yorkfield and Dual Core Wolfdale processors - Compatible with all FSB1600/1333/1066/800MHz CPUs looks like i will be needing a new PSU to then as mine is only 500w.

hello all im interested in the above graphics card and know of somebody is selling 1. before i buy i would just like some advice. i have just read the system requirements for this card and it states you need a Core 2 Duo cpu. my system has a pentium dual core E5200 2.50GHz will my CPU be enough to run this card? i know i can upgrade the CPU to a core 2 duo but i didnt really want to spend anymore money on it yet. thanks for any info

Hi nev, thanks mate yeah im starting to think the same thing :( i will see if i can check it on my mates PC to rule it out. but would this have any effect to why the CPU fan speed increases so much when the card is fitted? thats the only thing i dont understand.

i tried to edit my last post but couldnt :) ive just had another look around the BIOS, the primary graphic adator is set to PCI express, not onboard. But onboard graphics are still working and i get the same high speed CPU fan when the card is inserted. also with the card fitted and using onboard graphics i cant see the card in device manager

Thanks again for the help guys. the motherboard is a Asrock G31M-GS. Now you mention it the BIOS clock settings did reset itself to feb 09 and set the clock at midnight. i did have a look around the BIOS settings but everything was set to auto. i loaded default settings but still the same. i didnt see any setting for onboard gfx unless i missed it. and yes mate....the CPU fan stays at a constant high speed untill the card is removed, then everything appears to go back to normal.

thanks for the reply mate. i took the new HDD straight away,its not in now. The pc boots and works fine untill i put the graphic card back in. (without the HDD) it still boots then but i get no output from the card, i have to use onboard graphic's and with the card fitted the CPU fan runs at a very noticable fast rate., about 3 times faster than normal.

hi just wondering if anybody could shed some light on this please. this morning i fitted a second hard drive to my pc. i started the pc up and got nothing, the CPU fan was running at its highest speed i finaly found that if i take my graphics card out and use the onboard graphic socket the pc boots as normal and everything seems fine. if i plug the card back in (sapphire HD 4870) the CPU fan goes nuts again, i can still boot the pc using onboard graphics,but i cant see the graphics card in device manager and the CPU fan constantly runs at what seems it's highest rpm. strange thing is where i fitted the new hard drive was nowhere near the GFX card so i cant see why it would harm it. the only thing i can think of is an overload on the power supply? its only a 450 watt PSU but why would this make the CPU fan speed increase when the card is inserted?. any ideas? thanks
