  1. The thing is i want a PC that will last, thanks for providing the info regarding overclocking a CPU. I did not know that! I've found another site, with another package Not sure about the motherboard or PSU: Cube247 - Zuben ST20 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Intel Core 4 Quad Q9550 Processor 4096MB Corsair DDR II Memory 1000GB SATA II Seagate Ultra Fast Hard Disk Space NEC 7200 Multi Format DVD/CD ReWriter ATI Radeon 4870 Performance Graphics 5.1 High Definition Surround Sound Intel Deluxe Motherboard £599.00

  3. The cheapest alternative is the Zalman which is £30. That would mean i would have to go for the second package. I definitely want a PC that is balanced and not too loud
  4. I've decided to purchase from cougar-extreme.co.uk as the site has received many positive reviews. Requirements: The types of games i want to play are Medieval Total War, Empire Total War, Mass Effect, Doom 3. Also if possible on medium settings, Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. The PC would also be used for watching and editing HD content. I am going to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, the monitor will be purchased from another site. £652 – cougar extreme Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0 Ghz 12Mb Cache, 4Gb Corsair Memory DDR2 800 (2 x 2gb), 500GB SATA Hard Drive, QCE - MSI P43 NEO F - 1600FSB DDR2 1066x4 P43 chipset, 896Mb GTX260 PCI Express Nvidia DDR DVI, CiT 500W Black Edition PSU, DVD+/- RW - 20X (pioneer 116DBK), Elite 330 Black Midi Case Window No PSU RC-330K-KWPC-GP DVD+/- RW - 20X (pioneer 116DBK), No monitor and OS £608- cougar extreme Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0 Ghz 12Mb Cache, Manufacturer Supplied Cooler, 4Gb Corsair Memory DDR2 800 (2 x 2gb), 500GB SATA Hard Drive, , , QCE - MSI P43 NEO F - 1600FSB DDR2 1066x4 P43 chipset, ATI 4850 1024MB PCI Express DDR DVI, Elite 330 Black Midi Case Window No PSU RC-330K-KWPC-GP, CiT 500W Black Edition PSU, DVD+/- RW - 20X (pioneer 116DBK), No monitor and OS £675 – cougar extreme Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0 Ghz 12Mb Cache, Manufacturer Supplied Cooler, 4GB Corsair Memory DDR3 1333 (2 x 2gb), 1000GB SATA Hard Drive, QCE - P43Twins1600 - 2000FSB DDR3 DDR2 1333x4 P43 CHIPSET, ATI 4870 1024MB PCI Express DDR DVI, CiT 500W Black Edition PSU, Elite 334 Black Midi Case No Psu RC-334-KKN1-GP, DVD+/- RW - 20X (pioneer 116DBK), No monitor and OS NOTE: I am not sure which motherboard to choose from, as well as the types of RAM. 5. Thanks for the links, will opt for the Q9650. As for graphics cards, i am interested in the ATI Radeon 4870 and Nvidia GTX260. The Radeon 4890 seems a bit too expensive. The types of games i want to play are Medieval Total War, Empire Total War, Mass Effect, Doom 3. Also if possible on medium settings, Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. The PC would also be used for watching and editing HD content.
  6. Not really sure if building them myself would be the best idea. I've done some research and have opted to purchase from either cyberpowersystem.co.uk or cougar-extreme.co.uk However, i have a question. I've narrowed down the processors to two, the Intel i5 750 and the Quad Q9650. Is it worth spending more on the i5? Or should i stick with the Q9650 and invest in a better graphics card?
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to wait until after the Windows 7 release date, and check a few forums to see if is possible to perform a clean install on a blank hard-drive.
  8. Thanks for the reply, i just don't want to waste my money if it's an upgrade version. I can also opt for the Professional version with the disc. I also asked this on the Windows 7 Answers site, and got this reply: Windows 7 Student Offer Install Question "In order to install the upgrade version of Windows 7, you must have a qualifying Windows operating system installed and activated. You cannot install an upgrade version of Windows 7 on a blank hard drive. The installation procedure does not ask you to insert a Windows disc in the drive for verification, the actual qualifying operating system must be installed. If you do not have a qualifying Windows operating system installed with a genuine license activated, then you cannot use the upgrade version of Windows 7 - you would need a "full version" Windows 7 license. In summary: 1. A qualifying Windows operating system must be installed. 2. The qualifying Windows operating system must have a genuine license (product key) and it must be activated. 3. To upgrade, boot to the qualifying Windows desktop, insert the Windows 7 Upgrade disc in the DVD drive. 4. When the setup menu appears, select Custom (advanced) to initiate a clean install procedure."
  9. Hi My old PC has died and i am thinking of making a new purchase. However i am unsure as to what site i should buy from, looking for a company with good customer service. So far i have found Eclipse Computers, Overclockers and MESH. Are there any other companies that the users on this forum can recommend? Thank You :)
  10. i have a question regarding this offer, I'm currently studying a course at university and my old PC has died. I'm going to purchase a new one next week (Windows 7 compatible) however it has no OS installed. So i was wondering if i purchased Windows 7 via the student website, would i have to carry out a clean/custom install? Or do i need a genuine copy of XP/Vista already running on my NEW pc.
