Hi everyone,
Please, is there anyone out there who knows how to sort out my graphics card problem?
I've got an aging PC, its a AMD 3ghz , 1mb of ram, XP home.
I have a ATI Radeon X550 card - my PC came with everything pre-installed, so I had the ATI driver and control centre already on their and working fine. Until about a month ago!
Seemingly randomly, as in 'I hadn't done anything silly that I can imagine might have caused it,' my PC booted up and I got a message saying I didn't have permission to alter the settings within the ATI control Centre. Which was odd, seeing as I hadn't ever fiddled with the aTI Control Centre!
One of the other strange results of this warning, I was unable access any of my drives from My Computer! At first I panicked, thinking it was something terminal going on with my windows installation or drives. I managed to boot up in safe mode, ststem restore - seemingly problem solved. Only, its been happening about every two weeks or so, until today - system restore is no longer fixing the problem. Even as I write, I can use the internet, but unless I boot up in safe mode I can't access my drives, its crazy.
I found a bit of advice about removing all ATI stuff(drivers, etc) - I tried a normal uninstall, I've got shot of all the drivers but the damn control centre refuses to be removed, and it still gives me the warning when I reboot and I still have the drive access problem.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can remove the ATI software altogether then reinstall the latest ATI stuff?
thanks
Jim
